Your top 5 films (not judging, looking for options)

I found all the Godfathers massively over hyped unfortunately when I watched it. I don't know what I was expecting but just found it so... underwhelming. I'm going to have to watch them again I think to be sure.

Same, I thought they were pretty rubbish.

I think it depends if you buy into them, then I can imagine them being really good, a bit like Lord of the Rings, people rave about those movies but just isnt my thing, so I just think they are really cheesy and long....

Everyone raves about it, tried to watch it a few times but get bored and have yet to watch it to the end...so no spoilers please I might a get around to it one day.

I'll be honest i'm not sure how you can just have top 5 too much to choose from but you could have a few favourites in each genre but even then im not sure I could choose my top 5.

Just off the top of my head

Horror
The Poltergeist - 1982
The Omen
The conjuring 1, 2
Insidious
Dead Silent
Get Out
Halloween

Martial Arts
The Fist Of Legend
Police Story
Raid 2
Operation Condor
Once Upon a Time in China
Project A
Ip Man
Rumble In The Bronx
Drunken Master 1,2
I've not seen - Seven Samurai yet
also I'm not even sure if things like Unleashed, Kickboxer, The Karate Kid, kung fu hustle would come under this genre.

I've already gone over 5 sorry and I could still add more to each.
I may update this later later.

Same - there are some good scenes here and there but overall I really didn't find they held my attention and very underwhelming.

Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources
Wall-E
Bladerunner (original release with the voice over)
Delicatessen
Jet Li - Hero

Never heard of Manon des Sources and curiosity made me look it up. Going to watch. Couldn't help but notice it starred Yves Montard of Grand Prix film fame! Didn't Yves have a fling with Monroe?

The story how he passed away is something else. "On the very last day, after his very last shot. It was the very last night and we were doing retakes. He finished what he was doing and then he just died. And the film tells the story of an old man who dies from a heart attack, which is the same thing that happened!"

Make sure you watch Jean de Florette first. It's a single book filmed in two parts. The actress in Manon was startlingly beautiful.

too hard to nail 5 but,

Anything by Jean Pierre Jeunet, he has a new one out on netflix now, BigBug, which looks suitably bonkers
Aliens Spec. Ed. pared with Alien 3 Directors cut
Brazil, but again, anything by Gilliam really
Bladerunner , original voice over or directors cut
Interstellar. I think its the music that blows my mind on this. Really wish I had seen it in Imax

The question is too generic to make a top 5 out of. but i'll give it a shot

1. dark knight
2. dark knight rises
3. lord of the rings 1
4. lord of the rings 2
5. lord of the rings 3

No particular order.

The Shawshank Redemption
Spirited Away*
Aliens
Tremors
Airplane

Although every time I try to name my favourite films the list varies a little, especially if i'm going by what criteria they're my favourite, for example 2001 and the recent Dune film are great cinematography, Silent Running has an impact and punches so far above it's budget, Grave of the Fireflies is exceptional in the emotional impact, and American Werewolf in London and The Thing have fantastic practical effects.

So I've gone for the films I have probably watched the most/can always remember quotes from, and even then if I did the list tomorrow the chances are a couple of them would change, for one thing I've realised they're all films from the last ~50 years. and having posted them I'm remembering things like The Day the Earth Stood Still, and a bunch of WW2 era films, not to mention a couple of musicals:).

[edit]
And now I'm wondering if I should have put Young Frankenstien or Blazing Saddles in instead of Airplane.

*This could be swapped out for The Cat returns, Whisper of the Heart or Totoro almost at will.

Pay it Forwards.
Interstellar.
The Elephant Man.
Goldeneye.
Lake Placid.

No real order and not truly my top faves but they stand out.
