Your worst kitchen purchase

George Forman or Rice cooker, i cant be bothered with all the cleaning etc of the cooker so tend to just buy uncle bens rice for ease. As for the Foreman it has 2 settings On or Cremate.

I forgot to clean my George Foreman once. When I went to use it again after about 2 months, the non stick coating had dissolved.

My worst purchase is probably a sausage maker and meat grinder. Works great but is still a bit of a faff. The real issue is getting hold of real sausage skins/pig intestines is almost impossible. The only source I know of charges so much that it just isn't economical.

A Close second is a pasta machine. Really hard to use without a second person to hold the thing down. It really needs some g-clamps to secure to a table, but then I don't want to do that on my kitchen table. The saving grace is that fresh made pasta is so unbelievable better then any dried pasta it is unreal. I never touch the dried stuff. If I want pasta I make it myself.

I recently replaced a kettle with some fancy looking fast boil one from Robert Dyas.

But this new one was like a bleedin' volcano going off in the room - steam everywhere, deafening roaring noise - you couldn't stand anywhere near it and have a conversation - that's if you could get close to it without being scalded. Plus it seemed to be causing the rest of the street to brown out when switched on such was the power draw.

That went in the bin and was replaced with a cheap which we are quite happy with.

A granite chopping board. It suddenly clicked that..erm, wont this just blunten my knife? :o. It's now used as a surface to put hot pans and trays on, so i guess it's not a total waste.

Maybe in the UK but not so easy in the US,a nd I don't really want to buy online. If I am in the mood to make sausages I want to make them the same day. With my lifestyle it is impossible to plan ahead like that.

Plus the grinder has all the other hassles of kitchen equipment - it is a pain to clean.

Plenty in the USA, USA is so easy to get anything in. When I search for stuff, always disappointed living in uk, we have such a small selection compared to yu guys.

My grinder is easy too clean, there's nothing particuly hard about it. Only 6pieces as well.

I guess I just didn't put in much effort to look online because food food I really prefer buying in person. Will probably order some in the next weeks.

I have a stupid big wok that I keep meaning to get rid of and getting something better..i thinks its a 36cm one!

any recomendations?! 28 or 30cm should be fine

Most people on here seem to recommend cheap carbon steel ones from Chinese markets. Amazon do some reasonable ones, the 'Swift Spice 30 cm/ 12-inch Heavy Gauge Non Stick Carbon Steel Wok' looks good for £14.99, I may have to get one myself.

Just thought of another one, Duronic BL1200 blender. Damn it's loud, I mean it's about 1 1/2 times as loud as a henry hoover. I've had the jug leak and motor fail so on me so am now on what is basically my second one and I hate it with a passion. Also it moves so much you can't leave it unattended and it's worn out part of my pine work surface due to the vibrations.

Avoid duronic stuff - looks nice but kit is just terrible, terrible.

I've broken that one, the plate that pushes on the garlic to crush it has fallen off.

Couldn't recommend more the one I posted on here earlier. Can do two cloves at once and has the inbuilt cleaning nodules which helps reduce waste as well

My Imperia pasta machine came with a g clamp. Do you mean you don't want the material of your table damaged? But a piece of wood, or whatever, between the clamp and the table to protect it?

Yeah, my machine has no clamp but I figure I could pop to a hardware store and pick up a big clamp. The read issue is on the kitchen table the sides are quite deep so i would need a very big clamps, and there are lots of cross-bars and support for the table extension underneath that I just don't think it would work.

So it is really a 2 person job, 1 to hold down and the the other to rotate while feeding in the pasta.
