You're only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake

The absolute best version of this I've tried is the America's Test Kitchen one - it's maybe 7-8 minutes instead of 5 minutes but IMO the results are worth it.

INGREDIENTS

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 ounce bittersweet chocolate, chopped, plus 1 ounce broken into 4 equal pieces
1/4 cup (1 3/4 ounces) sugar
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (1 1/4 ounces) all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1. Microwave butter and chopped chocolate in large bowl, stirring often, until melted, about 1 minute. Whisk sugar, eggs, cocoa, vanilla and salt into chocolate mixture until smooth. In separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Whisk flour mixture into chocolate mixture until combined. Divide batter evenly between 2 (11-ounce) coffee mugs.

2. Place mugs on opposite sides of microwave turntable. Microwave at 50 percent power for 45 seconds. Stir batter and microwave at 50 percent power for 45 seconds (batter will rise to just below rim of mug). Press 2 chocolate pieces into center of each cake until chocolate is flush with top of cake. Microwave at 50 percent power for 35 seconds (cake should be slightly wet around edges of mug and somewhat drier toward center). Let cake rest for 2 minutes. Serve.

I've been defrosting mince and chicken breasts in the microwave for like 20 years and never had an issue. Just make sure not to overdo it so it doesnt start cooking it around the edges.

You need a microwave, they are great. Just melting butter, or defrosting meat once in a blue moon when you forget.

I haven't missed having one for 2 years now since our one broke.

For the sake of having something for "once in a blue moon" which takes up unnecessary space in the kitchen then I can live without :p

Cool, wasn't sure if it was safe. Chicken takes forever to defrost in the fridge, and sometimes forget to put it in the night before. Never thought it could be defrosted in the microwave!

Leave the chicken out. I take it out in the morning, put it in a bowl, cling film, and by the time I get home it's defrosted. :)

apparently it's safe as long as you cook it immediately after

I tried this last night and can only liken it to what I imagine eating a tyre would be like. Not pleasant at all.

Holy thread revival Batman!

I suddenly remembered about this thread and my partner and I are making the mug cake now.

Will report back.

There is too much liquid in the original recipe but otherwise nice. It did explode in the microwave a bit.
