YouTube Content Creators

I don't know about the general opinion on this, but as soon as I hear 'AI voice' I turn the video off. Regardless of how realistic they are, they're super noticeable. Not a criticism of your work, or anything - just from me as a consumer of content.

Same. And it annoys me when they're obviously poor and that the creator hasn't bothered to fix the obvious bits.

Yes same, AI voiceover is an instant turnoff for me. They will get better mind and it’ll be harder to tell.

Actually, watching his videos now, it is pretty hard to tell, if I didn’t know a Brit had made it, I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

Interesting to hear, congrats on things moving in the right direction.

I mentioned in another thread that I decided to try editing in my spare time, starting with a small documentary. It got 300 views and multiple comments which I thought was great and really spurred me on to make more. The subsequent 2 videos were of higher quality, more care over thumbnails, titles and so on but no views or comments which meant I’ve been less inclined to do more, despite enjoying the process of researching, writing and photoshopping the assets.

I used a realistic AI generated voiceover for the script and have been toying with the idea of getting a mic and investing more time but a bit reluctant as its time consuming with no short/medium term pay off.

Hats off to those who persevere!

Link to the channel if anyone is interested.
Pretty cool those videos, production is nice (apart from the typos :P).

Gaming the algo is the trick, getting your CTR up over 7% is kinda the tipping point where it’ll keep pushing the video at people.

Took a full year to get monetised for me, although the first six months I was posting stuff that wasn’t getting any traction. Found a formula now that regularly gets 1k views on the initial algo pump.

For those interested :

See, it's super noticeable to me, sounds very processed and very voice-for-radio like.
It’s a lot better than it used to be, if I wasn’t looking out for it I wouldn’t have noticed straight away. As it got a bit further on there are a few things that sounded odd.

Come a long way since the basic robovoice voiceovers

I use play.ht for a lot of guide VO work (before we get a real person to do the actual recording). One of the better ones I've used and has fewer limits than others I've tried.

Tbh, I kinda do the same :D I was originally just playing around with Premiere because I pay for the CC licence already, didn't want to splash the cash on hardware that would just gather dust if I got bored making them.

If the subsequent videos had as many views as the first one, I would've got to it but I guess it's about trusting the process and enjoying it regardless of the outcome.

Hello all!
I've done a fair bit over the years (see my other threads - one of the biggest was starting and then selling a fairly successful business) and I figured it's finally time to have a go at a bit of content creation.
Over the years I've made a few videos for the business and helped family members with their content, but given my fairly broad spectrum of interests (cars, tech and travel being the big 3) I thought I'd finally pull my finger out and get creating.
Any thoughts are welcome - the intro on the first couple of videos is a bit waffly but I've cut that right down on the latest few. Also trying my hand at a couple of shorts but that's not something I'll probably pursue much in the long term.

I'll have a scroll through the thread and give feedback on others this evening too. :)

I'm trying to get some videos back out there as YouTube emailed me a couple of weeks back saying they were on the verge of demonetising my channel. When I looked, my last video was November and in fact I've only published 3 videos in the last 12 months. Popped one out last night and have another simple video I'll get done in the next week or so. It's not entirely clear what threshold I need to stay above.

My problem is, I started off as a Tech review site (specifically Android devices) and I'm kinda pivoting to cycling videos, which is a little weird I guess. I don't think I'm allowed to link to the channel still, as it's monetised and self promotion isn't allowed on the forum.

As a viewer, I do the following:

I stumble across an interesting video (thanks to the algorithm serving it up) and decide to watch the creator's content, usually starting at the beginning.

The creator is usually full of genuine enthusiasm about their subject, and the videos are interesting.

Then, inevitably, they start churning out more and more videos without decent content. Just a click bait title, big intro, sponsored ad and a plea to subscribe.

I see this time and time again and am now quite experienced at seeing the tipping point and unsubscribing, knowing what the rest of the content will be.

There's an understandable tipping point where if you decide you want to actually try and make a living from your channel, you have to start optimising for revenue.....and that means adverts, sponsorships, subscriber begging, etc.

Happy I've cracked the handling of the 6k footage from my new camera, now all 1:1 4k on all streams. Quality is bang on.

I have started getting companies reaching out to me for a sponsorship opportunities. Doing a video for a book publisher soon (it's a climbing book).

Making $50 a month from one review video affiliate link still, and the £40 or so average from Youtube. Subs continue to trundle upwards.

I need to do more review content which is evergreen and just keeps earning, but it's hard to find the time to get in the right frame of mind to talk to the camera after a day of work.
