Another question. I remember reading a few years ago if you leave a family group you cannot join another for a several months. Anyone have any experience of this.?

I'm still hoping to get away with it (Ukraine). Maybe being on Starlink and in Spain helps and they're only targetting UK users at the moment with the emails?
Would be annoying to go back to ads, but it's just too hefty a price for only removing adds from videos. I don't watch that much though, maybe <10hrs a month so maybe that's how i've escaped.

i have premium @ home but when i'm on my work account the adverts drive me insane 
The apple appstore turkish gift balance method seems to be working for me. Going to explore premium for a month and see how it works for us. I've not done family. I'm just going to use the same generic throwaway account on about a million devices accross the fam where we will all get served each others rubbish, but at least we'll have no ads. Not sure if we will hit a device limit. Let's see.

Tried creating another Apple ID today but it kept failing at verifying the phone number, I guess it's picking up on my number already being linked to an account? Either way I've got another phone at work so I'll try that when I am back on Wednesday.

Happily had an Indian premium individual account for a couple of years now. I want to upgrade to family but doing anything seems a bit risky, I don't want to lose cheap premium.

I tried that today and still wouldn't work, nor would it work on my iPad with a different phone number that's not registered to an account already.
I did manage to do it online through the website though, then log onto that account with my iPad. Set it up with a random address from Turkey, entered no payment details. Bought a Turkish Gift card and applied that to the account. Connected to a Turkey VPN, opened Youtube and renewed the family plan and it used the gift card balance. Job done
Two months of family plan for less than £7. Beats £19.99 a month.
