Non of this is hard, there is alway alternative solutions. If your cheating via VPNs anyway to not pay UK price you may as well go all the way.
Although I get it if you just don't care and want the same app for all devices etc but I think faffing with VPNs to purchase a subscription out of the UK due to high pricing is even more of a faff around
This is my point, it is hard. It's fair enough that some people manage OK with it, I just find it a bit tiresome that every time this topic comes up people say "it's really easy". It distracts from the question at hand - yeah, we all know you can use Firefox with add-ons, that's not the point of the discussion.
For what it's worth, I haven't replaced my subscription yet, so right now I'm just avoiding using YT on the TVs as much as possible until I decide how to tackle it.
In terms of apps for other devices, I can figure it out, sure, but my family can't. HDMI inputs and the like are a no-go, so we use TVs and the built-in apps. SmartTube does not work on typical TV operating systems, so unless I replace my TVs with Android TVs it's a non-starter. TV boxes aren't going to work, because it's too confusing for visitors.
I'm well aware that I'm not entitled to ad-free YT, I just don't get why people find it almost intolerable that some folk find a YT subscription to be helpful and make their lives easier.
