Nvidia shield also here, been using Smart tube with no issues for years. The extensions are fine for the PC (have just tried them), and have revanced on the phone now (need to do the tablet later).
Just need to research my options for the Nvidea Shield TV
Watched YT on the TV for the first time since my Premium ended. And I find myself wondering how/why people bother if they haven't got Premium. I'm 8 minutes into my first video. I had adverts before the video (fair enough) and three(!) ad breaks during the video so farI'm one ad break away from giving up, grabbing my tablet and using ReVanced YouTube instead...
It's been years since I've used normal YT, but I don't remember it being this bad...
EDIT: Jesus F Christ - a fourth 45 second ad break inside the 10 minute mark. I'm done.

Something I mentioned before they use ad patterns to try and frustrate people into subscribing, what you are seeing ad wise may not be the normal experience or the same experience someone else gets. Sometimes it is a tailored pattern of ads other times they seem to run periodic campaigns.
You are probably getting hit with a pattern of ads designed to "remind" you what it is "like" without premium to coerce you into paying again.
They’re taking their time releasing this ‘lite’ sub without the music. I think it’ll be more like £7/8 than £5 unfortunately.Yeah most of my YouTube consumption is through an LG TV, AppleTV 4K or my iOS devices. So I kinda have to have premium but I also think it's worth <£5 a month.
How does this work, do you just use it as normal or do you add it to your family and then piggyback benefits off it?Finally caved in and purchased a premium account (£16 for the year) from a place that sounds like (gee two a) (not sure if I can link the place) it's been bliss with no ads and background music in the car again!
The only downsides I can think of are if the account has any problems or if the seller is a scammer but so far so good and it's been a week or more
I've shared the account details with the family just in case they want to use it but nobody seems interested since our last family subscription was cancelled so I believe I have the account all to myself which will be good for the algorithms![]()
I believe behind the scenes, they're creating a family account in a low cost country (e.g. India), fill that family with separate Google accounts, and then sell each of those Google accounts to individuals - keeping control themselves of the family master. How does this work, do you just use it as normal or do you add it to your family and then piggyback benefits off it?
Yeah, you're allocated a new account, you can't, unfortunately, utilise your own account. Maybe worth it for the main family TV.I believe behind the scenes, they're creating a family account in a low cost country (e.g. India), fill that family with separate Google accounts, and then sell each of those Google accounts to individuals - keeping control themselves of the family master.
So you can't modify the family or add other people to it.
Yeah that's the value I see of it. After all, as I've been at pains to point out, I'm totally capable of using sideloaded apps, browser extensions, it's family and kids that can't do that. So, if my only objective is no ads and I don't care that much about algorithms, recommendations and the like, it's not a bad option. At least it's far simpler than some of the workarounds... the big question is whether you can trust the seller not to screw you a month or two down the line.Yeah, you're allocated a new account, you can't, unfortunately, utilise your own account.
