YouTube Premium

some people like the music and it's effectively a quid a month.
if you look around you can be on perpetual trial of streaming services ... just a new google account every 3-6 months - gratos.

The delivery quality of the music matters for enjoyment, not just quantity/diversity - there was a long running OC thread(passed into meme) about how good DAB is, which exemplifies the modern problem;
the smarthphone, now, jack of all trades but master of none, trailing the CD player, or digital music players like fios, (not to mention vinyl) , similarly for digital camera functionality;
it doesn't help that much of the music has now been eq'd (dumbed down) for the poor smartphone environment where it will be 'listened' to.

The music videos don't matter to me (thought they died with MTV/VH1 generation) just the music, I though multi-tasking was the genz thing anyway, preferring subtitled tv show whilst listening to music.
(currently have Tidal Greta Van fleet Tidal through speakers, The thing 1982 on tv )

Music and music videos is very low on my list on what YouTube is for, for me.

There are a ton of good channels for every genre and hobbies on there, from news to documentary to comedy. The content is pretty limitless.

Honestly I'd rather pay the quid a month than waste my time setting up new Google accounts to hop onto free trials and losing all my subscribed channels and recommended videos.

Not sure what the quality has to do with anything if people like to use it then they like to use it and it's therefore a plus point of paying.

I'm actually really pleased with YouTube Music. There is a huge unspoken benefit here: there are some obscure tracks which are still not available on Spotify, Apple etc. Yet with YouTube as well as the licensed songs you can also add video music to your playlists. Far more obscure material available. Even then - if it isnt - you can upload it yourself and add it!

I mentioned a while back in this thread that a big plus of YT music is getting access to unreleased pre-album mixtapes - good luck trying to find any of those on another service.

But isnt that because YT music just pulls the tracks from YT without the video? As its all part of the same system anyway.

If im not playing music from Spotify then Im playing music directly from Youtube and not Youtube Music. Because it directs me to Youtube anyway.

Most likely, however i'm getting access to that specific music which is what matters - I don't mind the mechanism it's delivered, just a cheap price and more variety is a bonus :)

just missing out on enjoyment of the music, especially, for the most discriminating, home use, situation;
Youtube Premium will not deliver bitperfect 225kbAAC music (or better, cd quality) to home 'system', even in a car difference is evident.

@jpaul are you for real. Talk about a waste of time to save a quid a month. Cut your losses and move on.
Have you tried Tidal - I think it's overpriced, but the CD/bit-perfect quality is addictive , so the inconvenience of a tidal trial outweighs convenience of £1 month/YTP

Slightly off topic but since a few of you are familiar with other country accounts, you can get 1 year of Dezzer Premium for £9.22 on android if anyones interested.
No VPN needed.

Steps -

The following steps have to be performed on an Android device (or an android emulator like bluestacks). If you have the Deezer app installed, remove it first.

Create a new Google account on the Android phone.
I used an old android mobile I had lying about and factory reset it.

Select the new account in Google play store app and continue to payment settings page. Add your card and select Turkey as country. No address needed.
Once you pick Turkey it will then get you to input card details a second time, you should see turkey now when you click save.

Open Chrome browser in private mode, head to the play store and choose desktop mode on Chrome Browser.
Login with your new account, look for the Deezer app and click install. This will remotely install the app on your phone.

Open the Deezer app and select login with Google initial price will show as GBP but when you select it and subscription via Google play will show you will see the price in Turkish lira 206.90 GBP 9.22

Mind and choose the Annual Subscription link.

I have youtube on the livingroom tv, it's a standalone tv and no option to use ublock or the like. Happy to do the India trick (same as Turkey trick) and pay about £1.05 a month for YT premium.

Kids watch their cartoons and stuff and I watch documentaries and tech channels. So for a quid a month, it's great to be rid of adverts.

For posterity sake, this is the method that worked as of March 2023.
  1. Download and sign up to free VPN which offers the appropriate country of choice, in this instance it was Urban VPN and country of Turkey
  2. Activate the VPN on your browser
  3. Check the VPN is working as intended by Googling a search on what your IP/location is
  4. Once VPN is active and working - login to your existing YouTube account
  5. Not sure if this step is necessary but within YouTube settings set your location as the target country, e.g. Turkey
  6. Browse Premium packages and pricing should reflect the appropriate country of choice. If it isnt, your VPN is not working or the IP address blacklisted. Try another VPN. On my first attempt using Windscribe it showed Canadian dollars despite the VPN and IP tracking showing Turkey.
  7. Select desired premium package.
  8. Payment wise, it worked for me using my usual Mastercard. It did however fail on the payment attempt. At this point I disabled the VPN and tried payment again - which worked.
  9. If attempting to stack you need to go via "Manage Memberships" within your account. I noticed that with the VPN enabled it couldnt decipher my location and referred me to help pages. In this instance, disable the VPN and get as forward as you can to browse payment packaged un UK GBP. Enable VPN, hit refresh. Follow steps 7 and 8 again as above.

Thanks for this. Just done it with no problem :D

If I buy premium does it cover both accounts?

I have my main youtube account, and the google one that I can switch to inside youtube. If I bought premium would it see both accounts as one?

Being on mostly bed rest I'm having to put up with the same adverts.

Still fighitng with this.

My own paid for vpn, it says country not available, where's my IP suggests Turkey, but it's not.
Winscribe is Canadian dollars for turkey
Urban Vpn won't install and slings an error message.

Are there any paid for ones that work with Turkey? don't mind paying a month sub.

I used some free one on my phone for Netlfix back in the day but cannot remember which one!

When I used windscribe it had multiple servers for Turkey, one had different currency, other two had Lira, have you tried them all, think there are 3?
