Heh. Why do these numpties take it at speed? I was taught to take it very slow, but better was to avoid. I've told the tale here before but at one point my commute crossed a road called Watery Lane (near MK). Take the hint. One day it was flooded so I stopped, looking to gauge the depth. A lorry came the other way and the bow wave was impressive. I turned around.

There's a more obvious hint at Rufford. When the ford is deep enough, diversion signs are put up routing people around it. But the diversion is ~4 miles so some people go on through. Probably people who've driven that way before - the ford is usually much shallower and not a problem for any modern car or van.
