Zalman Z9 Plus - Cheap, Cool and Quiet Build

That is one tasty looking case dude, I did a build recently and was looking at that case but it wasn't in stock at the time which was annoying so went with the HAF 912 Plus instead (which is a superb case).

Great job though and those cathodes look mint!

thats about one maybe two months in my house, and my mums a clean freak!!

on thing i can fault the case on is the dust filters on the side, if your gunna have 2 fans on the side theres really not much point in having one on the botton, so i put the tights over mine, not too hard aswell :P

Wow, the filters do their job well then :p Just checked my front filter and there's a light layer of dust on there already! I'm not going to bother with any fans on the side, not for now anyway, I get ample airflow as it is so I'm happy :)

I love you keyboard lighting system, I would be proud :)

Haha thanks, I am rather proud for £3-odd :p

Andy_mk3, what is the max cooler height you can fit in this case?
Ive looked through the manual and doesnt say a word...

It's just an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Rev 2, got it new off the bay for about £15, I'm very pleased with the results though. Max temps are after 30-odd minutes of prime.

Ohh, just one more thing (hopefully the last one ;) )...

Ive read a review where they said the Fan controller didn't really work (or there was not much effect visible) as the noise levels were pretty much the same on lowest and highest setting..

Is that the case :)?

Well the fans are very quiet anyway, but the controller does work fine. I leave it on max 24/7, it's quiet enough as it is :)

The Zalman is such a good case mine had a faulty power switch which got fixed rather quickly how did you get the HDD in there! it was to fiddly for me I couldn't get it in ended up putting it under the DVD Drive.

This is what happen to me, I just got a zalamn z9 last week and the fan controller doesn't control the speed of the fans for me, instead it seems to control the intensity of the L.E.D lights, strange. Apart from that though the case is superb.

It was simple! Just screw on the rubber wotsits and slide her in :p

If the LED's are dimming then it will be slowing down the fan also :)

I have no idea how he did that either, my HDD seems too small to fit in there it doesn't reach both sides so I had to use the mounting bracket that you screw in under the disk drive, I think Andy must have bigger HDD then me.

Ah ok good to know :)

I've always wondered what the build quality of these is like, as they do seem to be one of the only options for a non-garish case that falls in the "cheap" category.

This or the 912 were my choices for a cheap build.

There's something about the 912 that doesn't do it for me. I'm quite particular which how things look, I absolutely cannot stand something that looks cheap and nasty. For the money I really am shocked with this case :)

Been running for over 10 days now and temps are great. My room is usually around 24C which doesn't help!

Been chasing a quiet PC all my life, with no results. Think as long as any part of the PC needs a fan, i'm not gonna get it. Especially if i want to OC all the time...

A little update today, nothing too interesting but hey-ho :D

The lovely post lady knocked on my door this morning and handed this over to me

No pics of the rebuild but there's nothing interesting to see there anyway.

I've had this case for about two weeks now, was shocked at the state of the fan filters already! Shows they work :)
