Zen MaxDSL information

Why would you want more than a single IP? Sorry bit of a network noob :p As long as you have a router your all good?

If you want to give everything public IP's, or give certain servers a separate IP?

Everything on my network has public IP's (and yes, it's firewalled :p)

Shock horror. Like Olly says, other than the ludicrous IP charges (and it would appear, upstream limitation), Nildram seem to have come up with a more sensible structure.

Upstream limitation?

No if you don't want to use NAT it isn't.

If you want internet accessible things (web, ftp, smtp) and so hanging off the end of your ADSL then it is a pain to do it with NAT.

I meant they quote 256kbps up vs "up to" 8Mbps down. Presume (but should email em) they're going to be keeping the upstream at 256kbps.

Hmm... all the MaxDSL triallists have had full 400kbit/sec up, AFAIK. I'll email my account manager and see if I can get a proper answer, rather than speaking to the front desk drones.

This is where I get scewed over (and many other "low speed" line people)

I have to pay the same price as an 8mb user, yet get less than an 8th of the speed.

There ought to be some kind of recompense such as increased data limits, otherwise there will never be an incentive to move to a MaxADSL product for me.

So if Zen are introducing caps on their 8mb Maxdsl is their anyone who isnt. Also i guess its because of its a bt product they introduced caps or not. ?

I started the sign-up process for this on tuesday night, so I might just make the deadline for the unlimited 2mb connection. Now that Zen has capped there service, who out there offers true Uncapped 2mb services?

It's because they use BT Centrals, yes.

BT Wholesale haven't. Their pricing just makes it an obvious end result.

Eclipse offer "unlimited" 2Mbps. Time'll tell how long that lasts too.

Wont last long :) I give it 6 months.

Update, had a reply from my account manager, and it is indeed 448 up on Broadband2 with MaxDSL. :D

Sounds pretty fair to me TBH.
Zen 8000 Pro for me then I think as I am just over 20 gig a month and its the same as my current 2 meg connection.
Will have to see what the estimated line speed is though first to see if its worth the move...

Well well well. How interesting. I've been with Zen about 2 days now, and this is what happens already! I've got the ADSL Home 2000.. I'm not really sure from the announcement; is my Home 2000 going to be capped or not? I hope not because I just like knowing that I'm uncapped, incase I do a lot of downloading one month but I never exceeded 20gB/month with my old ISP and averaged around 10gB I think.

For anyone who wants a truly unlimited connection, you could try f2s who I had been with for just over a year 'till I moved to Zen the other day. I only moved because Zen was cheaper for 2mpbs (parents wouldn't pay for 2mpbs on f2s) and for the multiple IPs as standard. Link: http://www.f2s.com/adsl/prouser.php

Did you not read the announcement?

Existing Zen customers with Home 500, Home 1000 and Home 2000 will continue to receive the same service. Should any of these customers wish to transfer to one of our new products they can do so, and will not be charged.

Complete with traffic shaping and lovely performance, absolutely.

Where does it say that?

And yes I did read the announcement, like I said, I wasn't sure - which implies I had read it. What I mean is that I thought it a possibility it just meant I would keep the same speed etc. Clearly I was wrong, and thinking about it, I don't know why I didn't realise.

But if you could explain a bit more about the traffic shaping thing that would be great. I was just trying to help those who were looking for 'truly unlimited'.

Well F2S are known for their current 'problems' and are shaping certain things as far as I'm aware?

What problems are those then? And I would have assumed they wouldn't shape the PureIP stuff since people pay a premium for it, and they advertise it as unlimited. I never noticed any slowdowns while I was on it.

Been with Zen for 4 years now, and although not a heavy user I've decided to regrade my 1MB to 2MB today in response to this. It's the same price as the 50GB 8MB package but at my address it's debatable what speeds I'd get and to be honest 2MB is plenty fast anyway. According to Zen account managers on ADSLGuide you can even use Zen Move and take your 2MB with you if you move house after 1st March. 8MB, if maxed out could yield about 75GB in a day. Of course, no-one (even those chanting 'Linux Distros'!) could ever use that legitimately, but with services like TV on demand etc coming onstream in the coming months I'd rather have the option to be unlimited.

Zen have always been brilliant, but unfortunately it's the heavy P2P'ers who appear to have spoilt it for everyone, again.

On MaxDSL you're paying for your usage, not your speed though. If it was unlimited it'd be unfair.

I'm well aware of the commerical realities of CBC, as well as your propensity for trolling and iffy points-scoring.

Got up the wrong side of bed this morning or what?

I was confused why you seem to be moaning about Zen capping their services, whilst reminding others of the implications of CBC. Thats all.

Care to explain to me how I am "point scoring"?
