Zero Punctuation - MGS 4

its a shame he doesnt play multiplayer sections of games in his reviews as a rule

because i would have loved to hear his thoughts on the konami ID system they have implemented for metal gear online

im imagining the yellow background with the konami logo and the little man in the hat stabbing it tbh

He makes good points, MGS fanboys whining, all in a days work, good job Yat.

I'm not bothered by his review. I don't lose sleep when someone makes it clear he doesn't like Metal Gear. Life goes on.

The word fanboy needs to be a banned word on here, its really pathetic when someone calls someone else a fanboy.

I think you're the arse here. You haven't played the game so you wouldn't know about all the things he could have said (which would have made the video funny). Instead he just went for boring old "long cutscenes" and "crappy stealth gameplay".

How am I being an arse?

He took my post and chopped it up to make me look like an idiot.

The Metal Gear series is a series of games that I hold very highly on my list of all time best games.

No I haven't played the new game, but like I said I'm sure the core dynamics of one of the most successful video game series would have changed that drastically. The majority of things he mentioned aren't exactly exclusive to MGS4 anyway, or is things we've known months before hand anyway.

I haven't played the game, so I'm allowed no opinion on the review?

That's like saying... "Well, Nahelem isn't out yet... so we can't possibly say that AnandTech's review is good and Tom's Hardware's review is bad... you're not allowed to have an opinion on the review yet!"

Just because I happen to think Yatzee's opinions hold some water, I'm an arse?

He makes valid points, and besides which I would have thought everyone by now knew that his reviews are supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt and at face value - they're entertaining, nothing more.

Simply because he's chosen to poke fun at MGS4 and I happen to agree with some of his points?

In respect to the spoilers part, I entered the thread and asked if there was any spoilers in the video was told no (which there aren't). Generally threads have **spoilers** in the title if there is to be spoilers, or a mod changes the title if spoilers start to appear.

Heck we have dedicated threads for MGS spoilers anyway.

Because he reviews the games and only really looks at the negatives (in most cases) while ignoring the positives. So while what he says is pretty accurate, it doesn't represent a full review of the product.

How can you say he makes valid points then say his reviews are just for entertainment purposes and to be taken with a pinch of salt?.

lol

Quite easily.

Some of the points he makes about games are actually quite true in some respects. But as a review as a whole, if you go by his reviews you'd never end up buying a video game ever as all he does is bring out the worst in even the best games.

The reviews are nothing more than entertainment.

Movie like cut scenes with good voice acting and narative is a negative? A story that acquires you to actually pay attention is a negative? Those are just personal opinions, not flaws. Metal Gear is meant to be like a interactive movie, not like cod or halo. Its Hideo's vision for it to be this way. Some like it, some don't.

You do realise that reviews are personal opinion don't you?

To which point, I don't believe he directly said "movie like cut scenes with good voice acting" are a bad thing, and neither is a "story that requires you to pay attention" a bad thing.

Nobody here has said that either, unless I've missed somebodies post.

The Metal Gear series has always had an absolutely huge storyline that for a player to get every little detail out of it will, will require at least two or three play-throughs because of the amount of information that you are required to take in through the long cut scenes. He's just picked up on that point really as I'm sure anyone will agree that MGS is so crammed with information it is a struggle at times to nail everything down in your head, and the long break cutscenes can take away from your immersion at times.

But on the flip side it's been those things that have brought the Metal Gear series to the very pinnacle of gaming standards today and are often the very things it gets praised for.

Nikebees on the right track tbh, the approach Kojima has taken is a very risky one, he's even said it himself. It's very heavy handed but ultimately rewarding if you have the time, energy and some form of interest in the series to put the effort required into these games.

Some people won't like it, i'm sure Kojima knows this and criticisms like the ones brought up in Yahtzees critique are just water off a ducks back to him. Maybe everyone should take a leaf out of his book and just let people who don't enjoy the series carry on as they were.

I love it, and i'm comfortable with the fact other people don't.

same here, and even after a week, i still love it, unlike GTA, which i lost interest in it very quickly. i think it might be down to playing the other three games extensively, getting all the hidden items and easter eggs. i really enjoyed hunting for tsuchinoko snake in snake eater, and finally getting it was awesome!

Same here really, like I said I'm unlucky in the fact I haven't played MGS4 yet but the series is fantastic. I realize it's not everyones cup of tea in respect to the movie style cutscenes (etc) and Yahtzee's reviews are just there as entertainment and to cause a bit of a stir.

Personally I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of MGS4, but I've got to spend money elsewhere at the moment and money is a bit of an issue :(

All should be fine in the next few weeks though and I'll be a happy Metal Gear Solid chappy :D

Talking about Halo, Halo 3 reviewed by Yahtzee is even better, I actually LOL and agreed with him on many points. I haven't watch all of Yahtzee reviews but I wonder if he has ever say anything good about any games.
