What on earth is it?!

Every Monday, I play footie at the local leisure centre. It's a fairly quiet place.

Last Monday, however, it was like the set for a new Lynx commercial. Over 100 women descended upon the place in the space of 10 minutes and I watched in both delight and fear whilst I waited for the other peeps I play with to show.

They had all shown up for some new class called Zumba which had just started, and 40 of them had to be turned away because of limited room.

What on earth could cause such a mass surge in women deciding they need a new form of exercise? TBH, most of them were in fine shape already. Are the classes/sessions being held by Brad Pitt? Does it involve some kind of electronic stimulation?

My goodness.... it's a cult, isn't it?

Coincidentally I was saying only earlier today how there is something of the cultish about this. My girlfriend, mum and sister have all independently taken it up fairly recently; it's only a matter of time before the knives and robes come out and I become a tragic victim of some dreadful ritual.

It started life as an infomercial on late night telly and no-one cared, then someone had the smart idea of turning it into a franchise and hey presto, yet another place to be seen.

My girlfriend loves it. She is a dance teacher and now wants to go on a course so she is qualified to teach it.

I don't get it personally.

I'm told it is supposed to be a great all body work out and particularly good for toning ones buttocks.

Why do women seem incapable of comprehending that to lose weight you simply have to get off your arse and move and that you don't need a fad to do it.

I mean what was the last one? Boxercise or something? Go to an actual boxing gym and they'll have you in better shape faster and cheaper and you'll be able to not punch like a girl by the end of it.

I know a girl that teaches classes of this, has done for a while. Didn't think it was this popular.

A friend of mine went to boxercise.

My mum went to it. As far as I understand it, it's a light aerobic workout. But women think they've just done something ridiculously intense then gobble a load of crap after and then wonder why they're not shedding the pounds.

PAIN AND SWEAT AND BLOOD AND TEARS! That's what an exercise should be. Not step 2, 3, 4. Girly punch, 2, 3, 4.

I have no idea why, but something just makes me LOATHE dancing in any form. Whether being forced to do it myself, or watching others do it (unless you're laughing drunkenly at someone's Dance Central antics) just infuriates me.

If women want to get fit and have fun. They should learn to pole dance.

(stolen from another thread) :D

I can watch that all day...

back on topic, Zumba is WAY popular, it came out of no where about a year ago. I know a few girls does it, one just starting teaching it. But from that video in youtube, some people are doing it in jeans?! It can't be THAT hard if you can do it in jeans.

It's some kind of fitness dance I think. My mother does it.

Thought it was just the name of a local club thing. Had no idea it was this popular.

After the game you can see them all "dancing" through the fire exit doors! :D
