Just thought would add my info regarding this obscene hike.
Complained to Amazon and Ring via email, added in Newspapers etc
After couple days had a result, well Ring did respond as follows.

"This is Jakub from Ring’s Executive Support Team, reaching out to follow up on your Ring Protect Plan inquiry.

Starting 11 March 2024, the price of Ring Protect Plan Basic will increase to allow us to continue providing new features and expanding in the future. I understand announcing a price increase can be frustrating for you and if you’d like to enjoy the benefits of Ring Protect Plan Basic for the old price for another year, you can do so by subscribing to an annual plan by 11 March.

If you have more than one Ring device set up at any location, Ring also offers a Protect Plan Plus which covers all your Ring devices at one location with additional features and benefits. You can find more information about Ring Protect Plans, including pricing, in this link.

Thank you for taking time to provide Ring with your feedback about this change. I’d like to assure you that I will forward it to an appropriate department for a review and future improvement.

If you have any further questions about Ring Protect Plans, you can contact us choosing one of the options available here.

If our Customer Service agents are unable to help with your login issue, feel free to contact me anytime and I will look for a different solution.
Kind Regards Jakub Executive Support Specialist www.Ring.com "

But I have responded that I am NOT renewing with Ring or Prime.
Now to find how to capture my video :) :)

My subscription doesn't end till December so I will see what happens with this, I like the functionality with Ring and I do have a doorbell, internal ringer and a second camera.

Will see how this all pans out and where people go with devices...
You can cancel, request a refund for unused time and then sign up straight away again, giving you a full year at the current price.

Yes I know all that as many across web are advising Cancel & sign up.
There is no way you will be able to do that every year, so they will grasp the £££ sooner or later.
I wouldn't mind if the "improvements??" had been made to a very basic app, then after 2-3 months a price increase.
Even so 42.8% is pure greed.

Funny they don't advise you when your renewal date is due :)
Also I clicked on link in email to go to my subscription.

You guessed it. Link does not work. Used capture for screenshots, which they ignored.

Fortunately it was via Paypal so cancelled auto renewal.

I don't think the monthly fee for the Ring Alarm (Which is great) along with a few cameras is too bad. Certainly get monies worth out of them. But a little worried now about future price rises as locked in effectively. Hard wired the doorbell etc so would be a pain to change.

I got out of my virgin broadband contract due to the price increase last year. They way these companies justify their hikes is disgusting.
They all do it. I binned off mobile phone contracts when my very reasonable TMobile (yes, them) doubled or something daft mid way through my contract. Used PAYG type like Giffgaff for many years, now I’m lucky to be able dual SIM my work phone and therefore not need any data. So I pay like £5/month just to keep my personal number.

It’s funny how little incidents like these make you learn about the real world . First time accidentally missing a credit card bill payment springs to mind as well.

Does it not just use 16/24v? Should be easy to swap out for another doorbell, unless you mean you've hardwired it via PoE?

Good point. Checked and it’s a generic transformer. Gives lots more options for next year if they continue to raise prices.

I don't think anyone in this thread has compared UniFi to Ring? I mentioned that I had moved over, and that was because I already had the UDM-SE for my gateway, plus their switches and APs for years, so I just needed the camera and a random drive I chucked in. I think I paid £180 for the G4 Doorbell, when I put in the money I got from selling the Ring Doorbell and batteries, plus the subscription savings, it's already paid for itself. I also get local storage, 24/7 recording, I can back the recordings up to my NAS, I can back the movement detections up to iCloud using Scrypted plus other features the Protect system offers. I've since added more cameras. For non-Chinese, non subscription, easy to set up and high quality cameras which integrate well with their network system, I personally don't find them that expensive.
How quick is the G4 between the button being pressed and the notification coming up on your phone? It was much slower than Ring when it first came out, but I'm aware the software has evolved since then.

1-2 seconds at most, same for the wireless Honeywell doorbell I have connected to it.

My bigger problem with the G4 Doorbell is the damn finicky wireless connection. Still drops out every now and then.

OAP living not such a great safe area.
Used my Winter Fuel allowance to purchase Ring with adapter, which neighbour wired in for me, which does work.
BUT! That annual hike for NO improvements - speed, storage online, etc :(
Still got until November to find a way around as have Eero 6+ [from grandson, as I share my wifi with couple other oaps] on my BTHub {smart} WiFi.

Can RING {wifi/data}be saved on a NAS or cheap PVR [I think thats what called]?
Most grateful for any help.

Pssst: BT Keep moaning when price hike or agreement finished.
Always get a few £££ off. paying less than I was in 2022 He He Scrooge Mc

For those potential Reolink customers that haven’t pulled the trigger yet, they released a new app today and said it included “package detection for the new doorbell coming in two months”. No further info than that.

I still highly recommend them, my WiFi doorbell is spot on.
