I did a close inspection, could not find any imperfections apart from some marks on the rear decklid, which did not bother me as I am replacing it anyway with a running pony version, same as pony badge on front of car as I dislike the fake filler cap on the rear.

I instructed my dealership not to fit plates as I did not want their large holders or my bumper drilling for the plates, which they agreed too. I also told them not to wash it but they said the car arrived to them looking filthy, I guess that is the issue with travelling on trains, boats and transporters for a few weeks. They agreed to get a valet guy in to do it professionally who would only use clean cloths etc, so I gave the go ahead just hoping I would not be confronted by a new car full of swirls as so many of them seem to have.

The valet guy however did find an issue with the car, I did not spot it until they pointed it out, unfortunately my drivers side window has a scratch in it, fortunately they have already ordered new glass and will fit it when the part arrives. They have also agreed to fit my Mustang side lower black decals as well once the recall part comes in for the wiring loom. :)

Upon close inspection I am amazed with the paint, so much so I no longer need to get the car detailed or paint corrected, some close up photos:

The magnetic paint is absolutely stunning, in dull light situations it looks just like a dark/deep grey and looks really nice. But under artificial lighting or sunlight the paint absolutely explodes with all the metallic flick in it and it is completely swirl and orange peel free, the paint work is absolutely stunning, one of the best I have ever seen on a car, it really is something else.

So what is it like to drive, well fire it up and the V8 makes itself very present indeed, it is kind of quiet on the outside, just a faint rumble unless you rev it to around 3000rpm. But in the car the engine sound is truly iconic and very true american muscle. So the noise is good, very good, it just needs to be louder, but I already have the exhaust to go on. :D

Driving at first it is like, oh my this is big, but then you starting turning the wheel and well it kind of shrinks around you and some of the big feeling is lost and when you do turn the wheel the car is very direct and response and the front-end on the car seems pretty damn good to be honest, but early days yet. Steering feel its not a 911 or the M3, but it is not lifeless by any means, I can certainly feel the road through it and in the sport setting the weighting is spot on.

Engine response is a little poor at first, all seems a bit laggy, I then selected sport mode, much improved, I then selected track/race and even better, throttle response is good and the power delivery is very smooth and impressive and it feels like the engine could rev forever, really is a very happy revvy V8 for sure.

I found a large roundabout just as things were getting cold and greasy and well tried normal, sport and race. The traction control system seems very intelligent, something I loved about the 911 was you could have that safety net but you had to get badly out of shape before it saved your ass and the Mustang in sport and race seems to let you have huge amounts of fun before it calms things down. In normal it steps in before a slide has developed at lower speeds. I have not tried wet/snow mode but it is supposed to work well, I might be finding out tomorrow as it is now snowing here. ;)

Performance wise to early to tell the most I have done is rev it to around 6000rpm and then let the engine slow down by itself simply to ensure the valves are nicely seated. The clutch is very light but not so easy in 1st or 2nd, it is quite jerky, I am perfecting it but it seems a weak area of the car, I might if I cannot get it how I like it remove the clutch release spring to get a more linear pedal feel but lets see I've only put around 50-60 miles on the car yet. Engine torque in totally incredible, 5th gear 1000rpm and the car picks up and pulls and sounds lovely whilst doing so, trust me this car would drive around on a track or a country road in 4th gear no issues the engine response and pull is brilliant across the entire rev range. The gear change itself is gorgeous, it is actually a nicer gearbox than the 911, no joke the gear change is stunning, feels like a h-gate car and it just rifle bolts into place, seriously awesome work Ford on the engine and gear box, now just get better with clutches. The gearbox makes changing gear a joy, the clutch is a bit annoying in first couple of gears but hopeful I can remedy it by removing clutch assist spring, we shall see, will give it 1k miles just in case it is simply newness of the car.

Attention, even in the dark, people try to catch up to pull along side, or braking to slow down and see it. I took some photos in the petrol station and people were coming over commenting on what a stunning car it was, some new it was a Mustang and others had no idea, but attention it is getting for sure even in the dark.

Comfort and toys, I am blown away, the seats are incredible support yet so comfy like a sofa, they are heated and cooled, but make the car a lovely place to be. Ride quality also to be frank is superb, it blows the M3 and 911 away for lower speed dampening, it glides over bumps, there is no harshness or noise or clunks, just great ride quality, but at higher speeds it does have that floaty/bounce feeling reviewers have mentioned, like the dampers are struggling to keep the car settled and the floating feeling I suspect is because the car sits quite high of the ground. Its nothing so major to be honest but it does cause the car to feel less dynamic and sporty and more touring/bouncy. I think the FRPP handling kit I have which lowers car 1-1.5" and uses firmer/uprated dampers along with lighter springs and larger anti-roll bars and more solid bushes will sort this issue out.

So its a wonderful place to be, the fact you can customise the dash, ambient lighting as the car has RGB LED's pretty much throughout is a cool touch, the interior is actually very nice, for sure nicer than my E46 M3 when it had an interior ;) but it is not upto latest BMW 5 series and Audi quality but not far off, on the whole its very good, couple of cheap bits here and there like plastic around window/mirror controls. The stereo was a bit so so, but for whatever reason in default mode it is almost like the rear speakers are off, you cannot hear them, after playing with faders, bass, mid and treble I've got it sounding nice, better than the Bose in my 911 and it has a lot more depth and bass ability. Of course compared to latest 911, Aston, BMW, Jaguar systems it is not as good, but it is still damn good if that makes sense. The Sync 2 system is superb, my phone paired with it with no issue, the satnav is great, the features are great.

Once I have owned the car for longer I shall go into more detail and of course it won't be staying standard for long, those who have being following my post in the Mustang thread will know I have a garage full of parts. I was going to fit the gear knob tonight, but I cannot get the old one off, someone in the Ford factory must have got excited with the loctite.

Tomorrow looks like I shall be testing out snow mode:

IMG_5574.jpg

IMG_5576.jpg

I simply love driving it, even at 10mph it has a character and charm I am afraid other cars have not given me, it might not be as cutting edge as a BMW M4 or a Mercedes C63 AMG. But starting this up makes me smile way more than the European similar performance rivalling cars could its full of character and it drives damn good out the box more so than I was expecting, one more thing which surprised me the car has a lot more grip than my M3 has got in colder/damp conditions. I think the chassis has great potential just need to unlock it, but I am very happy, cannot wait for tomorrows drive to work even if the roads are snow covered. :D

Any questions just ask. :)

Fantastic news. Get it on the track ;)

I can't help but think 35k brand new is a bargain for this car.

Yep, but same spec would now cost £36,885 with a year wait approximately.

Believe it or not, some random guy has already emailed me asking if I want to sell it, my reply was short and sweet "no" cannot believe the cheek lol. :D

Ford are also getting greedy and some branches are putting them up at £45,000 as they clearly ordered stock to sell and not for actual customers tut tut.

But I am happy, got mine, I only dislike the clutch, ride height and lack of V8 sound track externally. I have the parts to remedy these but the car is actually better than I expected out the box it really is and a couple of areas are simply incredible like the engine and gearbox. :)

Congrats mate. Looks absolutely brilliant. I'm always in awe when I see pictures of it, more so when I've been to see them in person.

Yeah the dealership were like please don't take it because it looks sensational in the their showroom, but my god did it look big, I was infact a little worried as in the showroom it looked like a bloody tanker for size. But out on the road yeah it feels a little bigger than the M3, mainly due to how high up I am sitting due to lack of bucket seats and the fact the car must be like 6" of the ground whereas the M3 is only 2" or so off the ground.

Love driving it, wanna go out again now, but will wait until morning as snow is coming hard, fingers crossed its a little clearer tomorrow, but a good test for wet/snow mode. :D

Which tyres are on there?

Very greasy Pirelli Pzero, but they gripped quite well until roads went greasy/icy and then well typical Pzero, not so great, but the car does have a lot more grip than I was expecting, I was feathering it on corner exits whereas it wanted a lot more loud pedal because the rear was moving and gotta say seems progressive, but I am waiting for better warmer dryer weather before I go exploring the limits.

But the wheels/tyres will have to do me for 12-18 months, once the tyres are shot I shall throw winter tyres on these wheels and buy myself some much wider 20" wheels outfitted with Michelin MPSS.

sound clip plz :D

Meant to do one, but in excitment kind of forgot, I try to do it tomorrow, because weekend I am throwing my exhaust on, my neighbours have already heard it, guy from across the road heard me rumble into the street and came out and said it shook his house, I was like yeah its a V8 it is really loud, he liked it though. Might not like it so much when all of a sudden it becomes louder. :D

Love the colour.
So any plans on engine mods ?

Nope for now.
I want to ensure the engine is fine, so nothing mod wise until 10k miles as a few have had issues whilst brand new, one UK car needed a new engine within 5 miles as it sounded like a diesel, so I just wanna play it safe. It has had a tank full of Vpower however and I shall get it on the dyno once I am past 1k miles and on full synthetic oil. :)

So for now just an exhaust to unleash sound which has no impact on power as its a catback.

But once I am happy I am pretty much decided on the Shelby intake, throttle body and CAI with a remap, should give the car around 50-70BHP and 50lb/ft so around 475BHP area and a new redline of 7600rpm. I might also upgrade the oil pump and gears at same time.

Then 18-24 months into ownership, the supercharger will come, 700-850BHP.

Of course I have being know to get impatient and knowing me it will be supercharged by Summer, but being realistic I want to hold off just in case my car has any early gremlins with engine/power train that require warranty work.

Love it, such a cool car. Really like the wheels personally as well, it's a great spec. Can't believe the price of it really. I can't think of anything else I would rather have without spending at least another 20k.

This is it, for me the closest thing to this is the F-Type R, admittedly out the box that is a much faster car, but out of current new cars it is one of the few that is plonking an NA V8 with great sound track into a sports GT coupe.

The other competitors cars simply don't interest me, it had to be an NA V8 with a manual which is the Jaguar's weak point, only auto I believe still.

Anyway survived the drive into work. Used the wet/snow mode and turned the traction system partially off, it kind of works OK but it is still a RWD car so on fully snow covered roads with a slight hill you have no chance unless you have a good run at it. So winter tyres are a must on this car for when roads get slushy/snowy as it does struggle, no different really to any BMW or Jaguar.

But to drive, oh my the car is a joy to drive even when your not getting much out of 1st gear because people seem to struggle when the roads have a dusting of snow and oh I managed 10mpg this morning. :D

I love driving it and the amount of people rubber necking, people seem to really like it. Sound system I am very happy with and the car was all frozen this morning but the heater and windscreen defrosters work fast and the car gets warm quick, plus the heated seats are superb. I even tried the AC seats and to my surprise it actually works very well, but too cold for this weather.

Engine noise in the car is absolutely stunning, true american muscle burble, its sedate on the outside but people can hear it.

Love it, just hope the snows gets lost so I can drive home with no risk of getting stuck and get beyond 3rd gear and higher than 10mpg, LOL! :D

I love the dash! :)

You can change the dash, ambient lights to any colour you wish, a nice cool feature.

Also impressive is the car has electronic/display gauges that you can toggle through for AFR, Cylinder head temp, oil temp, oil pressure, coolant temp, vacuum pressure, g-force, acceleration stats, tyre pressures and a load more things.

Only thing missing is no digital speedo, but I believe it is possible by a button combination when starting but the dials are easy to see, I've gone with deep blue for the dials and ambient lighting for now, but green and orange are pretty cool colours also.

How is the nav? It's something that Ford have done really badly in the past.

Its brilliant, better than my TomTom for sure, seems as good as my iphone google maps but it has more features, I particular like the hazard warnings, which basically warns you for fixed camera positions. But it is good, easy to see and follow and just seems to work.

The GM Tahoe satnav was better in the fact it was 3D whereas Ford is just an over top view or angled view more map style, whereas the GM Tahoe had a full 3D nav, but the downside to that it was not as easy to use.

I like it m8, touchscreen is responsive and fast, I particular like how I can customise the background as well, I just like how Ford let you truly customise the car inside to you with the lighting, Sync 2 system etc and it paired with my phone easily and works well.

Awesome!!! :D

Did you turn traction control off in the snow? How was it?

Seems quite progressive but I don't think I tried pushing it sideways any more than 20mph but the rear starts to move, slowly steer into it and it straightens even with power kept on. But I am not going to try anything fast or pushing the car until weather improves, with me in it, a full tank of fuel and a passenger it is nearly 2 tonne, I suspect if it lets go big time things could get messy. But it does have a lot more grip than the M3 does which is surprising, but the M3 does have better balance and is quicker to change direction. The Mustang feels a tad floaty/bouncy in comparison, but the front-end on the Mustang is a lot more direct and seems to turn in better. But it is way to early to compare it to anything, I've hardly truly pushed it yet or had the weather conditions to do so.

The M3 is a hooligan even in crap weather I do silly things in it and its a joy, the Mustang is a bigger beast but seems equally as progressive. But right now the Mustang I just want to drive it, the E46 M3 had a character, but the Mustang even more so. :)

Nice, didn't mean rev stationary but in 2nd or 3rd for instance.

Have fun and enjoy:)

Yeah should have filmed it last night when the business park was dry as I was stretching its legs a bit in the car park, pretty funny when you can get to 60-70mph in the car park, be able to stop and turn around. :D

If it dries out will do same again and film so can hear what it sounds like whilst the engine is loaded and car moving. But it has a very typical american muscle mellow rumble to it, really nice, but it is sedate and too quiet for my liking.

To me it'd just feel like something you'd get as a rental in the US.

I loved the GM Tahoe I had in Vegas a week ago, so much fun. But in all fairness the Mustang rentals are typically 4 cylinder / V6 with base/medium trim level. Very few companies rent the GT PP or California special V8 which to be frank is a far better car than a regular 4cyl/V6 none PP/CA car. :)

I really want the new Mustang, I won't be in a position to get one for a couple of years (at least) but I always worried about what colour I'd go for.

Seeing your pictures has made my mind up. The colour looks superb.

I assume you're going to keep this thread updated with your many mods?

Yep all in this thread, to keep it easy. :)

When do you think you'll be putting the first bits on Gibbo?

Knob is fitted! :D
My god its cold, went with billet/chrome one. :)

Might do the wheel tonight and hoping for dry weather tomorrow to get exhaust done.

Leaving suspension standard for now, want to learn the car on stock suspension, discover its strengths and weaknesses, then change a single part at a time to see what does what. Plus if anything goes wrong only fitting a single part at a time means I know what caused an issue or had a negative effect on drive.

Unfortunately my hood struts won't fit a UK car due to different bonnet layout, but the USA company I ordered from issued me a refund, now that is service even though they are not to blame and they don't even want me to return them.

Also discovered my strut brace won't fit also because again RHD cars different layout on strut tower, but Steeda are looking to find me a resolution. :)

1 day in crappy weather and it's already had a full review of grip and acceleration including 70mph runs in a car park?

Looks OK to me, maybe better in the flesh . Sorry but icemans GT350 kind of ruined the release by setting the bar so high. as it looks right now to me it looks like an American Mondeo. Wheels don't help mind you which is an easy fix

Guess you did not read what I wrote fully where I said it was way to early to come to any conclusions yet due to poor conditions on road. Though when I picked the car up roads were dry as was the car park for the testing, that was yesterday, today is the snow.

I have reported on how it drove so far but have said it is to early to come to any conclusion on the car and how it compares to previous owned vehicles, thought I made that pretty clear in my OP to be honest....... :)
Yes the wheels I am 50/50 on, but for now they can stay as just be pointless changing wheels on a brand new car with brand new tyres but they will be changed to something more aggressive and easier to clean in the future. :)
