DNA Database

I'm not happy about it. You don't have to be a hardcore criminal either, anyone that is arrested rightly or wrongly will have their DNA taken. If you've done nothing wrong, your DNA remains on file indefinitely.

Quite unsettling. We already have the highest proportion of population with databased DNA.

I wouldn't trust any Government with my DNA, so no matter what they do, I would not willingly give it, under any circumstances, same goes for ID cards.

I wouldn't trust this government to open a packet of crisps, let alone all of our DNA...

Yeah, I can see this leading to problems.

But then..if you don't agree to give your DNA willingly (which I certainly won't), then I'll get arrested.. and then.. they'll take my DNA anyway..what a ludicrous situation.

The thing is, I have nothing to hide YET.

What if the government go Nazi on us and start purging people? They have a DNA database they can use to their advantage.... and if we turn freedrom fighters, they can prove it was us... etc...

I'm sure there was an argument in ^ somewhere.

If the money was spent on tackling the social issues in this country and the causes of crime there would be no need for such a database or ID Cards.

These kind of schemes make me sad that society is simply turning into a kind of open prison where nobody can be trusted.

Yeah because then we'd all love each other and dance with the fairies:rolleyes:

There will alays be crime no matter what you do at the causes, untill the day comes where it is impossible or damn near close to it, to get away with.

And where even common assault is given harsh punishment (some form of lashings etc) rather than a little fine, then you will have no need for such a data base.

Surely the fact they are already actively hunting you, and you've started terrorist actions, means the fact they know you did it is the least of your worries?

Still its good to see you thinking "But this will make it harder for my terror.... I mean freedom fighting activities :( "

A bit o/t but in the context of the post you responded too..

Would you rather sit back and allow a Nazi style regime come into power? Or become a freedom fighter..?

Or it could be one of the countless cases of wrongful arrest in the UK, especially mistaken identity.

Databases like this ALWAYS suffer from "feature creep"

First it was to record the DNA of criminals

Now its to record the DNA of anyone who may be questioned related to crime, innocent or not.

Not content with that, we are now hearing calls for it to include ANYONE who merely sets foot in the UK.

What if people don't want to register ? They will be viewed with suspicion by the authorities. Not to mention the issues of recording foreign nationals.

In the future this database WILL be used by other agencies and perhaps the private sector. Refused a mortgage, or offered one at a higher interest rate ? Its yer DNA mate, increased chance of cancer in future.

Screw that. Its the modern Star of David.

So in this day and age are companies already allowed access to your medical files to determine whether you’re going to die in 10-20 years?

it wouldnt bother me if I thought it would only remain with the police/security services

but a project on this scale is always going to be cocked up...and I wouldnt want my details leaked to other sections of the govt or other interested parties..and they will not be able to give a cast iron guarantee this wont happen

Happy to donate my DNA if required.
I have nothing to hide.

The problem is though this gives someone the ability to set you up, should they want to, DNA sequence your file and grow it in the lab, plant at a crime scene, your stuffed, and no its not far fetched, but joe bloggs in a court room wont quite understand the idea (only basic DNA facts) so your likely to end up punished for something you didnt do. No system is flawless, everything can be exploited

Even worse is it would be government controlled, and there the most sneaky back stabbing agency in the uk.

Personally im not in the slightest worried, like you iv nothing to hide, I lead a normal average life, but the potential is there should someone tick someone off in the 'powers that be' then they have no chance.

My DNA on file? No thanks

am i completely wrong or can your dna only trace you to a family line (or i suppose it's generation specific) but regardless i dont want to be framed by my sister especially as she's a csi and could plant evidence.

although thinking about it, i'm fairly sure she has samples of her dna on the list for any case she's working on, so as long as i get her to investigate my crime scene i'll be ok?

I dunno what's wrong with regular investigative work tbh
Rather than, find a sample - compare to database - jail.

Same goes for GPS tracking of my car and RFID tagging/tracking of my body. They can get stuffed on every account.

Come the revolution, I say.

It may be the only way to totally remove the Orwellian system that is taking root in this country. 'The Man' is slowly, but surely closing the shackles on us, but by the time they are fully secured, we won't even realise. It may be years before this happens, and maybe those in power don't fully understand the consequences of it either, but the creep must be visible to those who choose to look.

Ooh, that makes me sound like a crank! :o
