2007 Japanese GP - Race 15/17

Great race by Kimi on what was supposedly a "dry" setup, including getting stuck at the back after the tyre mix up.

Vettel has been given a 10 place grid penalty for the next GP after hitting Webber.

I just can't understand why they are running this race, it makes no sense.
It's like a bad joke that adds yet more evidence that F1 is a clowns sport. Glad we got up for it guys, right?

Better than some of the oval racing in the states where they simply dont run if its wet, they just come in to the pits, wait and get some industrial strength hair dryers to dry the track when it stops raining ;).

Tbh the safety car could have been in a lot earlier today, its almost as if they panic nowadays when the rain comes on.

Excellent race, well done Hamilton!

Shame about Webber, that guy must have been really bad in a previous life!!

Also, I liked some of the comments from the drivers about having the race started in such conditions:

"His veteran team-mate Alex Wurz crashed out, and compared the sensation of driving in Japan to "closing your eyes and running through your house at high speed." "

:D

I actually think that Hamilton was the best driver of the day. Pretty much all the top drivers today made mistakes, while Hamilton had one incident (Kubica running into him) that wasnt really his fault. He qualified in pole, drove to the fastest lap in the race and won it. In rain, where driver ability comes to the fore, as opposed to car performance, Hamilton came out tops.

Before this race, i wouldve said that Alonso was favourite to win the title, but now, the gap is very big.

I would love Alonso to stay at McLaren next year and give Hamilton a sound beating, even though he doesnt talk to most of the team (including his boss and Hamilton).

Alonso must've been under immense pressure over the last 2 months, working in such a difficult situation. Imagine going to work every day, in a competitive environment where you are not on talking terms with most of your colleagues. You know that you are disliked. However, you still manage to close down the championship leader and beat the team's favourite driver. This takes great mental strength and for that I commend Alonso.

The most amusing thing is that he doesnt speak to his boss, which means that if he needs to be told off, no one can. He almost has to manage himself, within the team and make sure he keeps himself in line.

I'm sure Martin Whitmarsh would have a go :D

I'm unsure, if he managed it then it would be good, I imagine with the total lack of team support it would be nigh on impossible.
All I can say about todays race is, thank god for Kimi!
Shame the championship is ****** now but that's the way it goes.

How anyone can have any respect left for fred is beyond me, he ain't even that good at driving

lol, fail.

If you mean Alonso, then I'm sorry, but he was the only driver in recent times to beat the M. Schumacher/Ferrari combo, twice in a row.

Right now, I would rank Alonso as the best driver in Formula1, however, due to the lack of team support and the fact that he will have had to race half the season without talking to most of his colleagues (unprecedented), it looks like he will most likely finish 2nd place in the WDC.

I also dont think that it is any coincidence that for the last few years McLaren were nowhere in the WDC, but the moment Alonso moves in to the team, the fortunes have changed almost overnight. Its a massive confidence boost when you believe that you have the best driver racing in the car that you are producing/working-on. We saw a similar thing happen when M.Schumacher moved to Ferrari.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not taking anything away from Hamilton. He is leading Alonso in the WDC after 15 races. To do that, you have to be very good.

You Fred fan boys crack me up

Fred in the Renault, um didnt schumi win in the same car (beneton), oh and they both had the same attitude to fair play

The only difference is Schumi can drive, Fred cant stay on the track unless he's in front.

First off, MS was arguably the best driver F1 has ever seen. Alonso beat him 2 years on the trot. This lead to MS quitting as he just didnt feel it was worth trying to fight back. The motivation to fight just wasnt there anymore. This should tell us that Alonso himself was a mighty fine driver (and still is).

Alonso has stayed on the track plenty of times, even when he has not won the race. His WDC titles are testimony to this.

The best drivers in the history of F1 have always had a twisted sense of fair play, including Senna, Prost, MS and Alonso. It all stems from the overwhelming desire to win against all odds, no matter what.

Have you ever watched F1 before? Schumi won in the same car? What?
It's maybe the same car in the way that it has 4 black tyres.

Maybe the "Fred fanboys" crack you up, I think you'll have a lot of people laughing aswell though, I know I am.

Good race when it finaly started. Although it should have started early as the pack was easily able to keep up with the safety car. If the Safety car is pulling away from the pack and asked to slow down then it is not safe to race.

Why was Vettel not given a drive through for colliding with Alonso like Kubica was with Hamilton? To me both were racing incidents, nothing more, Hamilton took wider line and Kubica took the racing line and when Hamilton turned in to take the apex Kubica was already there and they touched. If Kubica got a drive through why didn't Ralf get any punishment for driving into the back of the Spyker?

Tyre mix up, my bottom. They were pushing the rules as far as possible and it came back and bit them (only gently though as it transpired).

Because Vettel's incident was under the safety car where no racing is permitted.
