that "worst place to live" program

wouldn't be in killin would it now?

Eh? You've lost me

I know i've been sat drinking cider....and i stay in a rough area...but it was my choice to go into my second year and sit through 2 hours of financial accounting, financial managemetn and tax!!! I got the same schooling as half the nuggets from this area but i dont hang about outside the chinese while annoying a pitbull so it barks at everybody inside the chinese!

It's a total load of nonsense. All you have to do is look at what is around Middlesbrough such as North Ormsby, Marton, Wynyard and the North Yorkshire Moors to see Middlesbrough isn't that bad.

Hull is much much worse. Infact, Hull is the biggest state I've ever seen.

Also one thing that was unfair about the list is that it isn't a City, therefore it doesn't have City funding, which is a little unfair.

I live in Newham, which was ranked third worst.

I can see why it was chosen - poor schools, high crime, etc. I certainly wouldn't want to raise kids around here.

However, there's things that the survey didn't consider. Things like transport links and future potential. Stratford (aka the "good" bit of Newham :p) already has fantastic rail, tube and bus links. Soon it'll even boast an international rail service. It's also got the Olympics coming and there's a lot of money being invested. As a young adult with no kids, it's actually a pretty good place to live.

Different people have different priorities.

I live in Newham too, Royal Docks to be precise. Although parts of Newham are a little shabby to say the least, Royal Docks and its direct surroundings are rather pleasant.
I understand that surveys like this take an area/authority/council/county as a whole, and that's why we have to be careful when we take these surveys national surveys into account.

Same as Tunney, I am a 25 year old living in Newham, and am loving it here and I've lived all round London.

Just sensationalist media carp to make people with HUGE mortgages, school fees, council tax etc feel better about themselves IMO

Born and bred in Thornaby (very near Middlesbrough) and to be honest I really love going 'home' :D

I agree with it being a load of nonsense. I live about 12 miles out (Marske area) and ok some of the town itself in Middlesbrough isn't great, it's a fantastic area to live. I lived in Worcester for a year and hated every single second of it. Everything was so over priced and lifeless. I drove home every second weekend.

I've got a large woodland not even 500 metre from me, the beach is 3 miles away, the North York moors are about 10 minutes drive away. My 4 bed detached house only cost us £180k and yet it's in a very quiet area which we don't even think twice about letting the little one out to play in.

Makes me wonder how they did the statistics and which areas they used. If it was just Middlesbrough itself or the surrounding areas.

iknow its not the best place and that its got its bad areas but im sure most towns do...

my point is that it surely cant be the absolute worst out of everywhere.

it seems on the up at the moment , i dont see how it got worse in the ranking when everything there is getting better too

cant wait to go back home now

worst thing is lastnight there was people up here whod seen this on news/paper/internet and jokily laughing because im from "worst place to live in the uk" these are the same people who come from other towns further south and constantly **** them off for been rubbish or "boring" ,

Are you in Marske or 'New marske'?

Nottingham is 4th worst, up from 7th! Yay, the only way is up! ;)

Seriously though, Nottingham (the Nottingham that this TV programme is based upon) can be very rough because of the boundaries. West Bridgford, for example, is a brisk walk to the city centre yet is not classed as 'Nottingham'. It's still Nottingham on their postcode and on their address though.

Agree...

I used to live in Nottingham - just before they installed the tram system. It has just gone downhill, I went back a few years ago and it was shocking to se a city I grew up in looking so tatty...... Granted, they were still installing the tram system at the time but eye opener....

Its quite scary (my opinion) when walking through nottingham and the gang culture walks right at you, i dont know wether to dive into a shop or take the risk and go around them, i dont fancy getting stabbed or shot just because im different or i glance a look at them.

is that walking through nottingham centre ?

boro town centre is fine , id say you could happily walk through it most nights , i used to anyway.

its not that bad in the center of notts its the outskirts and the rougher areas which are very bad, and best not to venture into unless your a known local of the area. but a lot of areas have the parts like this in most cities.

Well im from Nottingham and must says its horrid! I used to love this place and now I cant wait to get my own house else where. I personally blame the council though. Some area's I will NOT walk through through fear of being shot or stabbed by local gangs. Without being racist and no this isnt, the area's I speak of have no white community at all. Gangs from neighbouring estates always go for fights etc etc with most of the time death of the agenda. That girl got shot some years ago in cross fire whilst at goosefair ? Just as an example or the area

They obviously didn't include Slough in the marking.

From what I can remember - Slough is a million times worse (in all areas) than Strabane was (and Strabane was last years 3rd worst place to live.) - Believe me, there isn't that much wrong with Stabane - its a lovely town and the people are nice (with little or no violence)

brough is a town of extremes the bad parts are pretty darn bad but the good parts are great.

Strange result though, I dont live up north anymore (I'm from Durham but was a Tesside Poly student) but my brother works in stockton now and Stockton is 10 times worse than brough alone and thats only a couple of miles down the road (and about 1 million years on the evolutanary scale).

I work in Milton Keynes now and it always gets good reports but is also an "extreme town" the bad parts are pure scum and the good parts are amazing. I guess the problem is where you draw your boundrys.

I dont hae NE news anymore but I cant remeber any shootings from brough being on the national news lately unlike manchester, london, birmingham or liverpool.
