Hellgate: Londom demo thread

Got my beta invite today and I think it's great. Sure, the graphics aren't fantastic but I don't think they're that bad at all. The most important thing is the gameplay which seems to be very good imho. You can certainly see its Diablo roots as it plays very much the same from what I've played so far (which is great for me as I loved Diablo 2). I think I'm gonna stick this one on pre-order :)

If they make it more hectic and action packed I can see it being very good. I was disappointed to see it's pretty much instanced based. You only see other players in the quest areas. I can understand why but when the whole game seems to evolve around instances, it is lame.

Considering it's a beta, I'm reasonably impressed. I really like the idea of nightmare mode :)

Well I've quite enjoyed it so far. Might not live up to some peoples expectations but I think some of the comments are slightly OTT.

Sniffy you got on beta also lastnight?
 
Cool I got my beta key during the night. Not gonna leech 4.2gb at work....but man im looking forward to this one!

Took me less time to get the beta than the demo last night, though understandarbly the demo servers got hammered when I was getting it.

Haven't figured out friends list or comms in game yet but it's surely possible to find other people. Maybe if you, sniffy and any others want to meet up later tonight?

I would be up for it 2, been playing this morning, getting more like Diablo the more i play it. Come up against a couple of good sub-bosses and one big boss that was a b****r to kill.
All in all i am pretty hopeful for the full game.

Quick note, apparently the servers are going down tomorrow morning at 9 (PDT), not sure what time here though.

i really like this yes it might not be the best looking game in the world but i still enjoy the gameplay which is fun would def consider buying this when it comes out

im playing the beta by the way
 
Not sure what some people were expecting from this to be honest.

Given the range of machines the developers will be aiming for, and the genre (or mix) which the game is based in - I think the graphics are fine from what I've seen so far.
 
very crap game, not sure what its trying to achieve, just a run and gun shooter. best for it to stay on the console, it tries to be a mix of painkiller and serious sam but its just a failure.
i was expecting this to be something like doom3, guess i got my hopes up too high and now i wounded.
 
The trailers looked awesome, and I've got 15% left to download of the Beta. I'm hoping the negative comments I've read aren't true, I've been waiting for this game for about three years :(.

This is an MMO not an MMORPG.
The difference?
MMO's you usually only ever see other people in the "hub" or main town centre and then inside instances etc.
With an MMORPG you will be forever running into other people.
Hellgate=MMO, UO, EQ, etc=MMORPG

Nothing special in the game at all, however I'm not overly worried about the graphics.
If I bought games on graphics alone then I would own a console.
However as somebody else described this as the "spiritual" move from Diablo.
Well considering Diablo 2 was an over-hyped pile of....that isn't exactly a great start.
 
Remember they say diablo, not diablo 2 ;) the demo is missing the atmosphere but i wouldnt mind hitting around with the other classes. Need to do some research in the form of a beta i think.
 
I think it's pretty good so far, very much diablo-esque. I'm only at Covent Garden but to me the graphics up to that point have seemed perfectly good.
 
I've got the beta invite email, but the link doesn't work. I tried this at 4am this morning, and just now, so I'm not sure if the server is down or my link is borked...

You are mistakenly wrong.

MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online
MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online "Role Playing Game"

Hellgate is not an MMO, it is not Massively Multiplayer Online, it's a RPG/FPS, like Diablo in a way that the only time you PLAY with other people, you are capped at not such a massive number.

Just like Neocron was a MMO"FPS".
 
Is Hellgate as good as Titan Quest? I found that much better then diablo so if people are saying Hellgate is worse then diablo then well its going be a lot worse then I expacted.
 
Finally Downloaded the demo last after speeds ranging from 20kbs to 500kbs.

Played about 45 minutes.
I was pretty disappointed for the first 5-10 minutes. Being thrown into it not knowing what the hell was going on. The tutorial was pretty much useless.

The graphics are a mixed bag for me. With everything on full some places look great (mainly indoors) others look very very poor.

Gameplay wise its very much like WOW. I still haven't played enough of it yet. I've just been invited to the Beta so will having a bash tonight :)
