What games do you consider "too long"?

One thing I occasionally read is people complaining about certain games being a bit too long, usually in reference to a particular long-winded and drawn out section compromising the overall gaming experience.

So then, what games would you consider to be a bit too long? Games that started to become a chore to play through, and might have seemed a tad slicker had bits been cut out. Generally speaking my view is that if a game is really good, then I don't want it to end anyway. But if I had to choose a couple of titles, I'd probably go with something like:

-Chaser. Has over 30 levels and while there is great variety I've no doubt it could have been trimmed down a bit with no negative impact on the gameplay.

-Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. The early section of the game is very bland and put me off somewhat. It also has some very annoying and overly long platform sections. Jedi Academy was a much more streamlined experience.

Half life 1 became that for me infact i reached the last part of the game err think it's the head in the middle of a cave or somthing and uninstalled the game could not be bothered to finish it,may sound strange but was well fed by then.think the big spider finished it for me seemed so hard, and after that i'd had enufff.

prefered outcast to acadamey here outcast was a slow starter but once you got the lightsaber it was like no other fps

acadamey seemed more like a add on to me less structured storyline i liked the darth maul lightsaber but not much else about it think they should maybe have took more time developing it and maybe a more modern engine

hmm cant think of one but there are plenty that are too short! :)

actually cant think of the ones that are too short either!

Yes ironically you gave up on the final boss.

I've never found a game too long. I never managed to finish either Black and White or Black and White 2, due to difficulty of the last levels. I'm a bit rubbish and i refuse to cheat. Also, Dawn of War bored me to tears.

Probably only Far Cry really, it was very samey all the way through, good nevertheless.

Same here. Out of any game that I think I didn't finish because it was too long rather then just getting too difficult or crap by the end Farcry really stands out. I got to one point where the woman got attacked while I wasnt there or something.. she died anyway.. I exited the game and havent gone back since.. well okay I occasionally play the first map through.. so pretty.

Half life 1 was huuuuge. I remember that level "Surface Tension". Took forever to get past that level! Bloody great though.

In terms of scale, Unreal is a pretty huge game too. 30+ levels of which many are pretty massive with a lot of aimless wandering about. In some ways I think this helped add to the experience however, as it almost felt like an epic adventure.

I thought Prey was stupidly long. By it's halfway point I wanted to kill myself hoping that the next level would be the last but noooo.

I do agree about Unreal, that was one seriously long game - perhaps too long. Try doing that in the Unreal 3 engine today :D

I thought Quake 4 was pretty long, but I did just play it in small amounts. It seemed to go on forever, but I guess it is pretty repetitive.

This is the sort of thing thats dumbing down games most games I find are too short and the ones you've mentioned for being too long are the ones I find are just the right length the fact is by making the games shorter your killing the storyline making it shorter than it should be anyhow this is jus my opinion and I've enjoyed this lil rant. :p

I agree! Games like Prey, I think were quite short, I wish more games had as much depth and playability as KOTOR etc... :( Sadly they do not!

I don't have a problem with long games per se, in fact I loved both KOTOR and Deus Ex which both had over 24hrs of playtime.

What I'm getting at is that there are occasions when games can get a little dull or have a drop in tension due to the way certain things are done.

One critisism I see of some games is that they are too short, e.g. Max Payne 2. But personally I think a relatively short gametime is acceptable if it is a highly polished, enjoyable experience all the way. Take Call of Duty for example. That only lasted me 8hrs, but it was a really intense experience with very little filler and a great flow.

I think if they can make a highly polished short game they can make a highly polished long game too it would jus take that little bit longer. It just seems the developers can't really be *****.:p

I find nearly all RPG games too long, and don't really play them unless they are really good (Deus Ex, Final Fantasy, Oblivion)

Anything less than amazing and I won't play it though, too much of a time sink.
