Vodka collection requirements

What would you suggest from the ones mentioned to try first time?

Do you favour smooth drinks or prefer them with a bit more bite to them? Anyway Stolichnaya, Finlandia or Absolut are all fairly easy choices, both for availability and drinkability.

Also, maybe daft question but how do you all drink it? Neat or mixed?

Depends on the quality. If it is a decent vodka then it is almost a crime to drink it with anything, if it isn't (i.e. house vodka) then drink it mixed with something. You can slightly improve even poor vodkas by putting them in the freezer before consumption, the chilling numbs the taste slightly. I have heard of people running their cheap vodka through water filters to purify it but frankly it seems like a lot of effort when a mixer will disguise it well enough.

I drink the good stuff neat, but drink it with food.

My favourite is SCAPA. It's from the most northern Scottish distillery, up in Orkney. Always drink Whisky neat. No diluting. No Ice. Last thing you want to do to a good whisky is change the taste. Trust me, been drinking the water of life for some time now :)

I've had loads but can't necessarily recall their names :p

The three below are well known domestic brands in Russia,

Standard - Русский Стандарт
Flagman - Флагман
Diplomat (black label) - Дипломат

Of those I really like Diplomat a it's really smooth vodka and very easy to drink straight, Standard was 'ok' and Flagman tastes like arse. Believe it or not my gf who is actually Russian couldn't tell me any good ones when I asked for you

Ketel One is quite tasty.

I'm still waiting on when I try a shot of Ultimat in a bar I frequent. Never had the heart to dish out the 8 odd quid for a shot, but it's supposed to taste like silk going down.

Ooooh that sounds interesting.

Yeah I'd found that. Can't see it cheaper anywhere.

Its over a fiver less per bottle if you buy 6. Fancy going halves? :p

Zubrowka is great with apple juice but the flavour takes a bit of getting used to if you are going to be drinking it straight.

Nah it's just simply sublime with or without apple juice. But must be out of the freezer.

Grey goose is awful french stuff.

Incorrect. i think you meant awful and OVERPRICED french stuff.

Stoly is great for mixing and zubruwka is pretty good too, but the zubruwka is always a winner with me.
