Vodka collection requirements

Gilly,

Just as an aside, I was in a Polish Vodka Bar at Holborn on Wed night - they had loads of bottles of Chopin. If you like I could ask them where they source it from the next time I am in there?

Lime and Orange? I must register my dubiousness.

Dubiousness noted.

A couple of people tried some of mine at the last Newcastle meet (was made with lime Grey Goose though) and it got a thumbs up.

Give it a go. Well worth it.

Do you favour smooth drinks or prefer them with a bit more bite to them? Anyway Stolichnaya, Finlandia or Absolut are all fairly easy choices, both for availability and drinkability.

Depends on the quality. If it is a decent vodka then it is almost a crime to drink it with anything, if it isn't (i.e. house vodka) then drink it mixed with something. You can slightly improve even poor vodkas by putting them in the freezer before consumption, the chilling numbs the taste slightly. I have heard of people running their cheap vodka through water filters to purify it but frankly it seems like a lot of effort when a mixer will disguise it well enough.

Thank you for the replies. I have given a bottle of Stolichnaya a go. Not sure if there are different variants though. Just bought the one I could find locally. Pleasantly surprised too. Far smoother and more flavur than I expected. Not just the typical flavourless throat burning that seems to be what many people think it is. I have chilled it though too as it suggested this on the bottle.

While I was in Denmark last year, I was introduced to Akvavit.

They actually pulled it out of a standing freezer and served it to you straight. It went down faster than a nympho on speed :D

And it is not a poor mans vodka either ;)

Berkut Vodka is my favourite, My Dad brought back a few bottle from Kazakhstan when he was there for work.

Amazing stuff, just warmed you as you brank it, non of that vile burning you get from Smirnoff etc.

Haven't been able to find it in the UK though, anyone seen it?

Anyone else tried the flavoured Stoli varieties- orange, raspberry? I tried the orange a while ago and enjoyed it very much. Picked up a bottle of Russian Standard a few minutes ago, will give it a whirl shortly. It's nearly odourless, and a £10.99 in my local offy it seems an infinitely better buy than the floor cleaner Smirnoff Red at the same price.

Raspberry is okay in cocktails and the Vanilla one with lemonade is okay but not a major fan of them...Orange one is nasty :p

Only flavoured style vodka I like is Krupnik Honey Vodka, daaaamn sweet vodka.

Russian Standard is pretty trashy imo. Not that anyone enjoys the stuff neat anyway.

No one enjoys Russian Standard neat or any sort of vodka neat? If the second then I know a lot of people who disagree with you entirely and still a few who would disagree with the first statement as well.

bought 2 bottles of that russian standard vodka yesterday because i like the bottle LOL

No, it was on offer in Makro, £7.50 + vat per bottle and it's £13 in asda i think so decent price methinks, got a bottle of absolut at the moment, nice stuff. can't recommend any others though as i'm a vodka noob.
