Vodka collection requirements

Just got some Russian Standard (Platinum? With a tin?) from the Duty Free for £14, I'll give it a bash now and see what it's like. I've never had it before, but I'm not expecting it to be as nice as e.g. Grey Goose.

And aye holy thread revival...revival...

so going by what you posted in the other thread, you wasted some good vodka by mixing it with coke? :eek:are you mad? dont tell me you do that with grey goose too?

I most certainly do not! I love Grey Goose, I wouldn't butcher it with coke. That'd be like, erm, licking poo off Kelly Brook. Just no need :)

I'm about to drink it with ice first, then coke. I have never had this before will report back in a few ;)

ah i see... good good. if it tastes crap, just mix it i say, like smirnoff, you cant drink it any other way than mix it.

i cant get hold of russian standard here yet... slow to import it from uk/russia i guess.

It's quite a thick vodka and over ice it's really nice actually.

I'm reading up on other Vodka's on Wiki (stimulating Friday night activity I know...), I never knew that Grey Goose is distilled in Cognac?

This is the stuff I'm supping..

Nothing more interesting really, esp due to the quantity I drink haha!

That (being distilled in cognac) would explain why I find it such a sweet vodka to drink. There's a bar in Liverpool that does it and I'm soo tempted to run out now in a pair of smart shoes and get some lol...

Being in Guensey fella - do you pay tax on your booze?

not a penny on tax for booze. no vat, so its all good heh. although i dunno how long it is going to last that way lol...might aswell enjoy it while we have it. how much would you be paying picking it up from a bar? surely its mega expensive!

You lucky sod - though Duty Free isn't too bad for the same reason

The place that does it in Liverpool does a double on the rocks for ~£5

russian standard was 9.99 at asda over xmas so i stocked up on 2 bottles, at that price it was cheaper or the same as some of the generic rubbish. bargain

heh, yeh, we get duty free too coming back from wherever on a plane/boat. on top of the tax we dont pay :p £5 for a double on the rocks? not bad. i know booze is fairly cheap in the uk aswell, the pint is cheaper there than it is here i think.

Some of my small collection from around the world.

same quality as yours, probably more watered down actually. :p its crap. but we do have our own brand of real ale called cynful.

I've got to say that this vodka isn't bad at all. I had a quick read of this thread before reviving it and wasn't sure, but the stuff I'm drinking now isn't too bad. Woud recommend it.

I still need to test whether the russian standart available here now is the real russian standart (from russia) or whether it's produced under licence...

Last time I tried the stuff I preferred the original russky standart rather than the platinum. Weird, but just how it was. Used to only be available from thedrinkshop.com and before that just Harrods. :o

What's the general opinion on Boru vodka? We get the idea that most of the UK at least thinks its a reasonably good vodka but here in NI it's often disregarded as crap and given for the 'low' priced student or promo drinks...?

I quite liked Boru when I had it, there was a nice flavour to it. Maybe it is viewed as cheap and nasty in NI but I'd drink it happily enough, a few more tastes might be needed to cement my view. It may just be a form of snobbery towards homegrown products.
