Is it acceptable for men to drink wine in pubs?

Complete indifference :) I'm teetotal at the moment anyway (have been for a couple of months), but I drink whatever I want, if it bothers people then why do I care? I'm enjoying my drink :D No one's ever commented on it, but in London we're a poncy pretentious lot who like to pay through the nose for posh grub and wine ;)
 
I started this thread thinking it was a light-hearted question. I'm genuinely surprised by the reaction it's provoked.

It seems to me that there's a definite split between the older ocukers (myself included) who see men drinking wine in a pub as odd to say the least (I don't think anyone seriously thinks it means you're gay), and the younger members of the community who think you should drink whatever you want and not care what sort of impression you're creating. Interesting...

Yeah, any 'man' in a pub thinking another man drinking wine makes him gay is probably a closet case trying to find ways to deflect attention from himself.

The overcompensating 'macho' types, lol

Different culture though init. Greeks and Romans walked around semi-naked all the time but believe me, I'd look pretty silly doing that, especially in London in November :p

I don't notice or care what people drink, they can have whatever they want. I was at a 'local pub' the other week though and ordered a vokda & coke and the women next to me queuing muttered 'bit of a girly drink isnt it?' I gave her a :confused:. The pub was your classic imbred local with the same people there on the same stool each day.

Oh well in that case I say try and conform as closely as possible to the ideas coming from those who are most ignorant and those who shout loudest, that should keep you safe.
 
Down the local pub i drink pints.... or if it's my birthday i drink port..
At a gig i drink pints
Out with the woman i drink starkl;oijvas ( that german beer ) or if it's a resturant then i drink wine

Out on the town, what ever i can see or what, ie beer shots then akcopops

So calling a homophobic person an idiot is not expectable on these forums yet it's perfectly fine for people to imply (& on many occasions outright say) that being gay is wrong and a horrible nasty thing!!!

My brother is gay and he would be very upset by some of the ignorant and nasty homophobic posts I have read on these forums!

Calling someone homophobic when they're nothing of the sort is worse, IMO, than calling someone that you barely (if at all) know gay. In your own words you said there's nothing wrong with it so why would you be insukted by it?

I suggest your brother grows some thicker skin if he's bothered about some random on the net that he doesn't even know calling him queer.
 
I have drunk wine in the pub before, amongst other things including; Smirnoff ice and Bacardi breezers (poof juice a my niece calls them), Gin and tonic - the list is embarrassingly long :o

I drink whatever I like the taste of. I pour Bells and Teachers down the sink because they are abominations and taste, as Gilly said, like cleaning fluid. Contrary to popular belief, I drink alcoholic drinks because of the taste, not purely to get drunk (that's a pleasant side-effect :p).

If I like the taste of it, I'll drink it - wherever I am, whoever I'm with, if I don't, I won't.
Having said all that, I do generally stick to pints (real ale) in the pub as that's what pubs are best for, draught beer. I can drink the same and better whisky at home that I can get at the pub but I can't get proper, hand-pulled cask ale.
