*****THE OFFICIAL***** MASS EFFECT THREAD

On my second playthrough, I went through most of the game with the Spectre Sniper rifle. OMG that thing has some serious power with the right ammo combo  I also saw an enemy I hadn't seen when I first went through the game - a Geth Prime. Think I found him on Virmire. He was a huge robotic geth who got the better of Kaiden a good few times.

Definitely saw them on my first playthrough.

So in effect the game has enemies at a specific level, forcing you to also be at a specific level to be able to take them down. It seems some people are complaining about it a little. It's funny how people were complaining about Oblivion and the fact that the enemies were always scaled to your level. I guess game designers really can't win ;)

You can't please everyone in the world of gaming unfortunately :(

Personally I prefer the Mass Effect way.

I can only assume that those whom are struggling or do not like the combat are playing the game as if it were a shooter. I am playing as if it were a RPG meaninig pausing and using biotic and tech abilities all the time for my team members. I am finding it best to change tactics, ammo, abilities and weapon mods depending on the type of enemy you are facing. I find that if you micro manage the combat it has a fair amount of depth to it and is a system I really like.

That's true, but to be fair like KNiVES said some fights are just pure trial and error or luck, mostly when you have little/no cover, it just seems to come down to luck in situations like that. For example the fight with the hostage, first few times I tried it I just got 'thrown' 3 times in a row instantly and nuked down, couldn't do ANYTHING at all. Also there's the factor of how well your squad members play, which in poor/no cover situations with the enemy rushing you is just absolutely abysmal.

I completed it last night. It's far from perfect, it has some irritating niggles and some of it feels a bit sloppy. A hell of a lot of the sidequests felt the same with the use of the same buildings etc but I still enjoyed the experience and will be going back for more :)
My only real dislike was the Mako, I don't want to drive round a buggy in an RPG :p

I restarted the game, and yes I am aware that there is a manual save option, but Mass Effect did do a decent job with the autosaves up until that impossible lol-you're-paralyzed-NOW encounter (which I'll probably leave and go on to do a different system first instead). I'll just save every 15 minutes or something.

I think you're just rubbish mate

Baaaw. Wonderful retort when you know you just can't make a decent rebuttal to what I said. Remind me why the consoles forum is going down the ****er again.

I'm about half way through on a 'normal' level playthrough and between us my team has practically all of the Spectre weapons. All I have to do is hold down fire and I can walk though 90% of encounters :D

I would agree with your points but when a game is fantastic (like Mass Effect) in other departments I tend to forgive these issues whereas if a game is mediocre anyway, I tend to pile on the complaints as it can't get away with them.

That said I can't help but always compare Bioware games to the godlike Baldur's Gate II.

my goodness, just completed a speed playthrough on insane difficulty

at lvl59 soldier, and rank10 weapons i can fire my weapons constantly and whatnot, but some of the enemies just dont die for a long time whilst constantly shooting them, geth prime and krogan come to mind

oh and it took just under 6hours :)

time to play an adept now

Well I went and picked this up in the end because I needed cheering up (man cold :() and I have dabbled with it for 8 or so hours now.

At times the game is just incredible and hours pass of just talking to strangers and soaking up the atmosphere. With this I begin to feel Mass Effect is filling a hole left in my gaming by Shenmue so many years ago, then the character I'm talking to doesn't have any texture for a second and their animation jerks over the cutscene whilst I talk to them and I'm yanked right out of that world in an instant. But fine after a few hours you learn to ignore it.
Then you have to drive the Mako....... Don't the games testers tell them that it handles like ****? Maybe I can ignore the Mako as I'm not in it so much(yet). But my 'Ai' team mates like to stand in the middle of a room and get shot so I have to do most missions with one man until they res. And they do res after a fight is done so theres no value to their lives, a contradiction to an event in the start of the game and a disappointment.

And yet I would still say I love it and already I'm excited to see what a second play through would bring, yet no way would I rank this as GOTY because it just hasn't delivered to its own brief and thats a massive shame.

I boinked the consort ner ner ner! :p

I didn't reliase u could 1st time round, since I played a goody two-shoes boy scout.

Playing as an Evil (female dog) right now, treated the consort like crap and I ended up in bed with her, guess she likes it rough :p
