Righto,

Having to RMA this card as it seems to have passed away.

You may remember my problem, it was working, but now when i boot it runs at 100% fan speed and gives no signal.

Anyway,

i have the rma address details, is it essential for me to pack the card in an antistatic bag ? i was gonna use bubble wrap, then put it in one of those envelopes lined with wrap, then in a box full of wrap :p.

Also, it advises i use citylink or UPS to deliver it, will it be ok to send it recorded delivery via the post office?

+ Where can i get static bags in the UK if they are essential +

Did it not come in some kind of anti static bag or bubble wrap? All my BFG cards have arrived in pink bubble wrap.

Are you sending it back to BFG direct?

If so, the minimum service I would use is Royal Mail Special Delivery. Recorded Delivery isn't secure enough, and is just a proof of delivery service, whereas Special Delivery travels via a secure network and is tracked at each handover point so is less likely to be lost or stolen.

I have an address for BFG Tech in Wales, so yes to the first question.

Secondly, i did recieve the card in box/pink wrap but they've been disposed of as, after the card was working i saw no reason to keep them ( learned from mistake now :p )

And yeh, i meant special delivery :p just don't use the post office much, do you know off hand if they offer parcel insurance ?

Have you got a local PC shop near you? They usually have mountains of anti static bags they'll happily give away - well, mine does!

I'd post you one of my old ones, but that will add a day or two more to the process!

Bubble wrap should be ok to be honest, and the things broken anyway!!

I guess. RMA is such an arseache.

I really hope it is the card thats donald ducked as it's the only thing i know how to change.

It was working, then whilst on these forums my monitor went black with 'no signal' and when i tried to reboot the 8800gt spins and theres no monitor response.

Wish i had another one just to try to put my mind at ease :@

Anyone in lincoln with an 8800 :p?

I'm not sure about it though, theres a lot of reported problems whereby the card wont boot, but mines been working so it isn't a PSU (new 600W ocz) or board conflict as far as i'm aware.

Been trying for days to identify someone complaining of the same problem, mainly for reassurance, but to no avail.

Steady on!

We don't know how many are failing, and if it's more or less than any other type or brand of card.

The only people who know that are BFG and the like.

Aye, at the end of the day the main variance between brands is the stickers :p

Granted some OC and some don't, but i'm under the impression they all recieve the same chipsets from nvidia firstly?

Also, the little sticker that say 'Bios Version' on my BFG card has the version number blocked out with what seems to be black marker pen ink.

Is that the norm ?

I don't think so, but that's not the first BFG GT I've heard about that has had the bios sticker blacked out.

BFG will sort it though, there RMA service is excellent.

All the 8800GT's are reference cards made by Nvidia production partners (foxconn et al), I understand.

Gutted man. I just hope after all this it's the card that is causing the problems.

I've tried everything under the sun to get POST since friday to no avail. I do believe after numerous mouth to mouth rescues, the card has finally bit the bullet, so to speak.
