Carrying 5 passengers

I picked my gf up from her work night out about half an hour ago, and as usual there were more people wanting a lift. I was happy to do this, until 5 people tried to pile in. I said I was only carrying 4, and refused to drive off while the 5 stayed in the car (without being argumentative). Eventually my gf said she would get out and wait while I dropped the other 4 off, but it was obvious she wasn't happy. Now she's not talking to me. What would you have done in this situation?

Carrying 5 is illegal if the car is not designed for it so I would have done the same as you and have done in the past - if you were to crash or someone was to hit you the extra passenger could have easily killed someone or themselves. In my case the other guys had to flip a coin as to who stayed as I wouldnt leave my gf behind to wait. Its a tough call to make but you did the right thing.

Exactly the same. Well done for having the sense not to take more passengers than you are legally allowed to. If you had taken all of them, one of them would not have been able to wear a seatbelt, and if you'd had an accident they could have been thrown into your gf in the front.

Good call, ignore gf.

yeah i'd have done the same. Your gf needs to grow up a bit by the sounds of it. Silent treatment because you refused to drive illegally and dangerously is about as petty as it gets.

Chucked the lot out and took the GF home..

Some people are way to cheeky when it comes to lifts. I guess they piled in without asking first?

Wait a second, maybe I misunderstood. You actually did leave the gf and took the other people? If so, then christ no wonder she is *****!

Also Tom|Nbk, having a 5-door is an invitation for this kind of behaviour, should be driving a 3-door :p

Got argumentative!

You went to work to pick up your GF, not 5 others. Ask them to get out, then tell them to get out. Its your car.

Bottem line, taking 5 is illegal, they must get out.

If your GF has a problem with you refusing to take 5, then she needs to sort herself out a bit.

Agreed.

I'd have left two of the people there and taken the gf and the other two to their destination.

No way would I leave the gf there on her own.

^What he said. I wouldn't leave someone by themselves, never mind by gf.

I personally don't mind giving lifts.

I know this all too well :o

For the record, I don't actually mind giving lifts, if people are polite and ask nicely first. For that lot to pile in and then refuse to get out would make my blood boil to the point I'd have them all out and just take the GF home. Your car, your rules.

Would have told them can only give 4 a lift if no one got out, would have told them all to get out. Wouldn't have left the GF though.

To be honest I'd have probably just taken them all if it wasn't going to be a long journey. Having said that, your girlfriend should respect your decision to do things legally and not give you the silent treatment.
