January Transfer Window

I predict that Reading will sign 3 players I have never heard for less than £1m, at least one of which will be Irish, one will be African, and two of whom will be useless and will never be seen again. The remaining player will become a regular, become worth £5-6m, but leave at the end of his contract for nothing.

All in all, business as usual.

IBTW seening Beckham in Arsenal training gear nearly had me choking on my lunch!!!

Don't forget we do have Ben Foster who was showing a great deal of promise last year.

Although he probably wont be able to play until the near end of this season... he might even miss the entire season which is unfortunate.

As far as long term solutions for left/right backs go, don't forget we are finally signing Rafael and Fabio next year.

They'll only be 18 though, so I don't expect them to figure in the first team quite so soon - but if the potential is there and they turn out to be decent, who knows?

I know about all of those, I can't wait to have Foster back, but the problem is with Kuzsczak who just isn't good enough, or good at all. He's a very dodgy keeper, possibly the worst we've had at OT in a decade (bar Ricardo possibly) so anything would be an improvement.

The twins arrive in the summer, but I'd be amazed if they weren't sent out on loan for at least 12 months, if not 2 years. They are only 16 now IIRC. Loads of potential, but still not ready to come in, especially as we need a RB now.

Mark Bosnich wasnt that much better than Ricardo, Im sure there was another one after Schmichel that barely played a game -name has completely gone for the moment though

But Taibi turned out to be a good goalkeeper in Italy after a couple of errors for Man Utd. Caroll and Kuzcszak have both made more errors, just less profile but they had extended runs in the team.

Bosnich was a good keeper who didn't have the best of times at Man Utd, but his times at other teams prove he was a good keeper. Before we signed Kuzy there were video's doing the rounds of him getting lobbed by the other keeper leading to worries about his aerial ability which have proven to be founded as he's about as dodgy in the air as any keeper I've ever seen.

(and yes, I know Foster has also been beaten by another keeper).

From what I remember he was quite bad for Man United though, right?

To be fair to Foster when Robbo scored against him it was probably more Danny Shittu's fault than anything.

We've had a succession of dodgy keepers since schmeichel left. Bosnich was lazy and his poor distribution was highlighted given that he followed a keeper with possibly the best distribution ever. Taibi suffered from his horrendous mistakes and as such never really got the chance to recover. Barthez was a favourite of mine but by the nature of his game when he made a mistake it was usually a spectacular one!

I think PIG and Carrol are much of a muchness and were both really meant only as backup to a first rate keeper which up till now has been VDS but both looked dodgy when asked to step up to the first team. Hence no-one really noticed when Carrol went. The Foster injury has really messed things up for us goalkeeping wise but i wouldnt be happy with PIG staying in goal for an extended period if VDS continues to be absent.

I dont know that theres that many keepers around that we could go for that would be happy to come in knowing that Foster would soon be breathing down their neck.

Taibi was who I was thinking of thanks :)

Caroll wasnt as bad as MB or T for me, and Barthez was actually quite good ..........if you forget his "mad" moments hahahaha (invariably in the most high profile games)

edit..... teachme for reading the last page first lol - thanks nokon and Tom

I know what you are saying nokkon but at the end of the day MB wasnt that good for us - he seemed to have an ok time at Chelsea before the drugs problem and as you say elsewhere also

Raises an interesting point really - we as Utd fans are blessed by some of the best players around, just because someone doesnt play well for us doesnt really make them a "bad" player, just one not really up to the standards required , sometimes I (and fans like me) can be too harsh on otherwise decent players

Iv only hear Rangers have an interest in Matty Taylor from the evening times today, we are linked with most left sided players just now anyways!

PIG aint that bad. There have been far FAR worse keepers at United over the past decade. He just has a few weaknesses he could do with ironing out (coming for crosses and kicking most notably).

I don't worry much when I see his name on the team sheet.
