Just to make this issue very clear for all the others that will likely take your viewpoint...
I disagree with others PRESUMING my consent. They have no authority over my internal organs, therefore I have no moral or spiritual reason to have contact with them in any way.
Remember, just because YOU think its a good thing - there's no excuse to remove consent from others. If more organs are needed, spend the money on advertising and campaign.
Also, what if this were the thin end of the wedge? What other parts of my body might go to 'scientific causes' on what grounds?
That sums up my position too.
I am a registered organ donor, and have been since I was 18. I have registered for donation of every bit of my corpse that might be useful. I carry the card on me. I have informed my family of my wishes.
I strongly oppose this proposed change. Organ donation should only be done with consent, and this isn't consent.
Put the cause aside for the moment and consider the process...
Your corpse is made available to necrophiliacs for sex unless you go somewhere and fill out some forms saying you don't consent. Without those forms, no-one cares if you consent or not. Even with them, your corpse might be used anyway, as mistakes will get made.
It appears that many people are basing their judgements of the proposed change on their own opinion of organ donation,
not on the proposed change.
EDIT: To clarify: This is not an organ donation issue. This is a consent issue.
The strongest degree of government coercion that I would support is to put the question on the forms that come round for registering to vote, i.e. a cheap way to make sure that all adults are asked the question.
