That used to be the case, but games since CoD2, BF2 etc all use CPU+GPU, games like F.E.A.R (GPU Dependant) are rarer now.
Thats why most sites say a faster Dual is better if your prim concern is gaming (for how long that remains who know, possibly Alan Wake is 1st game to use Quads, but so was Crysis supposed to).
Hello opet616 and welcome to the forums!£144 for an E8400 is still a bit steep for me.
Well, couldn't run higher than a 450 FSB, as don't think the memory will handle much more than that, which means to hit 4GHz would need 9 x multiplier.... and wouldn't fork out for the 8500.
Though am kind of happy with my quad, wanted to get 3.6GHz, but it jsut requires too much voltage and runs way too hot.
Guess will just wait until the newer quads come out and eventually drop in price.
The way my mind sees it is:
8200: 8x - £120
8400: 9x - £140
8500: 9.5x - £200
...
8200: 8x - £120
8400: 9x - £140 <- ding ding ding!
8500: 9.5x - £200
The E8400 is a 9x and 450x9 = 4050.
Anybody got any ideas how long it's going to take for these babies to drop in price to E6** sort of range...? £144 for an E8400 is still a bit steep for me.
Again, depends what you use it for, and the current Intel quads share Cache unlike a Native AMD Quad. (I will buy a Intel Quad when Native).
£500-£700 is too much for 2 Duals stuck together IMO.
And the Intel still has 4 cores which perform better than AMD's quad so I dont think this Native lark is needed yet. I'm worried that I'll regret buying a dual now, what if when Alan Wake comes out I wont be able to play it smoothly due to the fact it may need 4 cores to be on high settings?
