Who else is in the 400 club ?

Is having that much power available actually any fun on public roads at legal speeds?

Yes. Get someone with a seriously powerful car to give you a lift and you'll soon see why we spend all this money.

Mine is probably over 400, but I've not managed to get on a rolling road to prove it. It was making 390bhp at 1.45 bar boost, and now is mapped for 1.75 bar.

Wouldn't a thread that's something along the lines of who's got over ***bhp/tonne or who has more then *** bhp/liter make more sense?

Yummi, what mods have you got on the 400? there usually somewhere around 300-350 standard.
When I got it the engine was pretty much junk. Nobody'd changed the oil in about 30,000 miles and a badly corroded radiator led to rather severe overheating. Gummed-up oil blocked the oil passages in the hydraulic lifters and led to poor cam oiling. In turn, the unregulated fraction between the lifter and the cam lobe had ground two exhaust lobes level with the cam's base circle. It was a 6 cylinder with two extra along for the ride, barfing exhaust and partially burned fuel from those two into the intake manifold. This was not good for the intake and Rochester 2-Jet carb. It needed some R&R. The first winter I had the car, also my last year in secondary school, I ripped it out and endeavored to make it work as it should without breaking the bank. That's a tough proposition when you only work 8 hours per week. :p

A machinist and I performed the complete engine rebuild at my old boss' shop including:
0.030" overbore
hypereutectic pistons
new seals on everythng
new valves
new valvesprings
new pushrods/lifters
5 angle valve-grind
milled heads
decked block
ported heads
fancy street/strip cam from Comp with about .480" lift on intake and exhaust (I CBA to look it up right now)
Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
Edelbrock Performer 1407 750 cfm 4bbl carb
GM HEI distributor with MSG high energy coil
All the little engine-builder tricks such as port matching exhaust gaskets and fine-tuning ring gaps
1 3/4" primary 3" collector full-length headers
true dual exhaust

Shows more about the cars/engines capability then pure BHP IMO.
That's true but, to follow the slippery slope, BHP/tonne isn't the end-all either. You can have all the power per weight you want but it doesn't mean anything until you can get the traction to put it to the ground. Even if you've got the traction, all that power isn't going to help you when it comes time to turn or slow down. All the power, traction, handling, or braking in the world can't help you if your driving skills aren't up to par. As such, the only allowable boasting thread shall consist of lap times at either the Nürburgring or Le Mans. :p

It's a thread about horsepower, that's all. :)

Ive seriously considered about going to the next step and heading for the 400 mark but tbh I think it would render the car quite undriveable.

Don't be a fanny, the throttle isn't an on/off switch. DO IT!!!! :D

400 X 3 :D

DMS mapped E60 M5 - 545bhp (DMS figure)
extensively worked single turbo R33 Skyline GTR - 595bhp (RR by previous owner)
Noble M400 with roush exhaust & decats - 425bhp ish (stock figure is 425 but they never make it, so imagine up about stock now with exhaust and decat)

You own all of those, now?

A simply awesome car collection

I've not seen the Skyline yet, would certainly like too. It annhilated my time on the G-Meter leaderboard (although it does literally have twice the power my GTI-R did when I set that time :) )
