**- Official ATI 3870X2 OVERCLOCKING Thread -**

Nice one jambus, guess my Maximus Extreme will run two of these :)

Im looking forward to see someones benchmarking scores on here as none of the online reviews have overclocked results, this card can probably be pushed pretty high.

Let's hope you can get decent scores this time on the 3dmark06 thread as Tri-Sli seemed poor from your score down to the next few people with 2x 3870's and SLI'd GTX's. You would have thought you would have scored a whole lot more with three cards but it didn't :(.

I'm sure 2x x2's will scale a lot better for you.

Cheers J.D., My score probably could be a lot better if i water cooled the GTX's but im too tight to buy 3x waterblocks, rad etc etc, when newer and faster cards arent too far off.

Nice one jambus, your gonna have a nice set up two 3870x2 are gonna be seriously quick if they can sort out the drivers.

NP and nice system btw ;).

Yeah great point lol. Hopefully a new GTX comes out with the new G92 core and the bigger memory interface than 256bit. Then you'd have to get waterblocks as that would seriously fly :D .

Three cards would generate a lot of heat. My m8's SLI'd GTX's were crashing and such due to heat so I understand. If the X2 works out for you would you think of replacing the GTX's with 2x X2's?, or do the GTX's play really well once the resolution is cranked up?.

ok here is some becnchmarks compared to my crossfire 3870xt

everything set the same apart from the gpu's

this is the score for my HD3870x2 card clocked to 878/945

This is the score for my HD3870xt crossfire cards clocked to 850\1226

the thing i find strange ismy cpu scored more in the new card even tho its clocked the same

I don't think GDDr4 is all that really, the x1950 xtx's had it and ran to about 2200mhz but if you haven't got the core power to use all that memory bandwidth whats the point ?

I don't even think an oc'd HD3870x2 can fully use all the bandwidth of GDDR4, GDDR3 is cheaper and runs at tighter timmings and buy the looks of it its faster in reality.

A GDDR4 version of the HD3870x2 won't be any faster, that the current GDDR3 versions,

if i was going to buy that at least i would wait for ddr4

i think the gddr4 will give massivly better clocks but i also think that a good cooler will do that, i need to get rivertuner to work to release the full potential of the card as its hitting catalysts max clock

i could also do with fan control on the card to cool it better

guys - any of you with MSI version (see my other post)

mine didn't come with a 6 pin to 8 pin PCI-e power adapter which I'm miffed about - wanted to confirm if this was correct and reviews were wrong ? Mine came with 2 cables both 2 molex to 6 pin PCI-e power
