Tell you what, im going to the gym tomorow for a cardio session so I'll hop on the lat pull and try a 1RM and see how much I can rack out of it. Any other things you would like me to trial? not to much of a bother really.

have no care for how much you do tbh, would be nice to see a clear vid though :]

Hi
Ive been training for a good few years...and latley have had the chance to train a lot more. For the first time I'm thinking about taking some added protein or similar. I was thinking about going with a protein shake a couple of time a day and maybe creatine once daily. Can anyone recommend a good protein addition and also what creatine to buy. Some of that stuff is expensive:eek:

I think everyone here will tell you to go to www.myprotein.co.uk, its the best site for people buying in the uk.

Luckily they don't deliver to singapore, and all the protein powder here costs Holland and barrat (read: moron) prices.

I went to a brazillian buffet tonight though, and dominated a group of 18 americans with my meat-eating prowess. Some of these guys are like 26 too! They couldn't handle the excess meat.

As said myprotein.co.uk is a popular site, with great products (MP8449 - use that code at checkout for 5% off first order).

With creatine it is generally creatine mono for bulking and CEE for cutting.

This is widely regarded as one of the best protein supplements on the market, I've been taking it for several years now and it's fantastic and great value.

Optimum Nutrition 100% WHEY PROTEIN 5lb:

and at the moment for creatine I take Gaspari SizeOn which again is rated highly by the majority.

You'll probably be able to pick it up cheaper somewhere else but my normal supplier has stopped selling it at the moment.

Personally I don't like creatine monohydrate as it tends to have a lot of water retention, making you appear fatter and bloated. As mentioned above Creatine Ethyl Ester is great because it doesn't have these negatives. The latest creatine to hit the market is the one mentioned above Creatine Gluconate from Gaspari and I have to say it's extremely effective.

Cool Thanks...

So how's this for a start....

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/whey-protein/whey-protein-(2lb)/

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders/creatine/creatine-monohydrate/

Is there much difference bewteen the Creatine Monohydrate and the slightly more expensive...Creapure??

Last thing...how long will a 1Kg tub last and how long will a 2lb tub of Whey protiem last taking normal doses daily.

Cheers guys

The link msm722 seems quite good, but for that price on MP you can get 10lbs of whey (go to the bottom of the home page and type in "www.sports-nutrition.net" (without quotation marks) into the price matcher.

I haven't taken creapure myself, but I don't see why it costs double the price for 0.9% more creatine.

The ON 100% GS whey is better than the MP stuff unless you buy extra AA's and additives to match the two compounds, if money isnt a problem ON 100% GS is the dogs danglies

Cobblers, whey is whey and there's simply no way of justifying the rip-off prices of third party protein powders. If it is better then please explain how, why, when, where??

Also bulknutrition is a cheaper one to type into the pricematcher.

Creapure on the other hand most definately IS worth paying the extra for. I wouldn't touch that cheap creatine with a bargepole, it'll be from China and they really don't give a **** what they put in supplements, etc. Regulations you say? hmmm ;)

cobblers yourself, what your suggesting is that isolate, concentrate and amino-specific profiles do not matter. Whey IS Whey no matter how you spin it but MOST branded proteins are propreitary blends with lots of different constituents that a more casual gym goer is unlikely to buy seperatley.

I use MP 80% concentrate, sure, but i also spend a good-ish wad on BCAA's EAA's and L-Glut. What i create with it is a far superior tailored protein shake but the cost is more than any brand name supp. If your getting into BB'ing and you dont know your fatty acids from your aminogen complexes yet, branded shakes might be for you, they have a good mix of everything.

Chong i know your a purist and will disagree but i feel that your views on this are unfairly angled, your giving intermediate advice where newbie advice is required.

I'm not argueing with you but your last comment makes no sense. Isn't it the other way round?

I'm saying just buy some plain old bulk whey, about as simple as it gets, so how on earth did you come to that conclusion?

To any casual gym goer, they don't mean jack **** and they probably won't hold any advantage over normal whey.

ON Website said:
I have been using whey protein for the last 3 months & I've lost 26 pounds by doing only 1 1/2 hours of cardiov 4 times a week. Whey helps to burn fat as fast as possible. I recommend this whey to every obese person. This is the best whey I've ever had
:o.

Going with current prices, 912kg of ON Whey costs £17, and I can make a mix just a good as that for less. 657g of WPI = £6.30, 105g of L-glut = £0.79, 150g BCAA = £3.03. Total is £10.12. Personally I wouldn't bother with WPI and would use concentrate, either way, it's almost half the price.

I just think people should start out simple with training and 1 jub of 'stuff' for 1 month 3 times a day will do fine for 6 months to a year during which time the person can learn better practices.

What im saying is that buying a tub of maximuscle or ON or something glossy makes sense to a newbie, makes them feel like they are being pro active and getting the most out of the gym.

My protein seems more hardcore, i have mates who look at all my bagged and tubbed concoctions from MP and they are like "dude anything could be in that" and "wow ghetto supps" etc basically to the more casual trainer it just seems so hardcore and specialist that it frightens them. Bags of BCAA and L-Glut get easily misrepresented as 'chemicals' by joe average.

What im saying is, if your happy to be mr hardcore and you have good knowledge to fight your corner then of course iots better to go the Myprotein route. But when your relatives see bags of ominous powder all over your kitchen, saying that "some guy off the internetz said it would make me massive" doesnt carry much weight.

Like i say i was just looking at the big picture, taking into account Mr Average, and i dont think reccommending MP to newbies is the right thing thats all, it gets misunderstood and i reckon putrs people off

Yeah... Really fast hehe. I have to eat about 6000 kcal a day to keep my weight :) hehe

What's your diet look like?

No offence but I think you're over estimating just how many calories you take in. Unless you are huge and incredibly active, there's no way you need near 6K calories.

Although, by "about 5000" I actually mean "more like 3000."
