OMG, i love it all this bashing of valve makes me chuckle. source is very very successful for a reason, it is a great engine that makes great immersive games that use good physics to bring there games alive, you complain about box's that fall and scream physics yet would be sharp to complain if the games were rigid and cardboard cutout'ish with absoloutly no physics atal.
CS 1.6 doesnt need defence it prooved itself on th ebattleground that is pc gaming, half life was the same. The new era bought with it CS:S and to my knowledge is still packed to the gills with players and there isnt many games that keep a strong online gamer base like that, WOW and a few others but thats it. HL2 was pure magic and remains my alltime favourite game, Its won so many awards its silly to try and menion them all and that wasnt down to critics pushing a title to showcase tec, it was down to a great game playing like a great game should, this was carried on through all its spin offs, HL2 EP1, HL2 EP2 and no doubt Episode 3 will be more of the same great gaming
As for Portal can you name me a game like it? Tell me how a game as poor as you say it is manages to engrose everyone that plays it leaving them wanting either a sequel or atleast more levels to tear through. If you ask me (and in effect you did by posting your garbage) your just bashing steam because your that person that loves to be controversial in there veiws just for the reaction.
Pc gaming is alive and strong because of titles like Half life 2 and the source engine its built on, great games that you dont have to pay fee's to play online are readily available and on the whole cost less to buy new than there console counterparts.
Hey if PC gaming was dead shouldnt someone tell ATI & Nvidia to stop spending billions on research and production?
Ive played new titles like Call of Duty 4 on an xbox 360 on a 1080p set and on my pc at 1280x1024 (waiting for my 22") and my pc looks superior, hey the kid who owned the 1080p set and xbox 360 even said the same. Yet another reason why pc gaming will live on.
My PC cost me £700 or there abouts, it does £700's worth of tasks one of them so happens to be gaming. people complain about how much PC's cost in comparison yet forget to mention what else the thing gets used for.
My pc is rigged to my telly and a monitor, it gets used to stream photos/videos to my TV, i get HD content via my pc that i otherwise would need to invest in more tec to get. it also functions as my main music unit for my room as it is acompanied by my amp.
I browse the net and use it for research/work more efficiantly than any console based browser could, It offers me massive amounts of storage that i can use to keep my CD, DVD and HD media on and keep the medium i bought it on in prestine condition.
Hel i can even make music on my damn pc if i want to, i use digi decks to mix with and even get my digi tv signel through the damn thing aswell, this gives me the ability to record my tv aswell wich incidently would cost more to get the tec to do it stand alone.
Then after all that there is my £200 graphics card that i use to play my games faster, more efficiant and better looking than any xbox/PS3 and definatly wii could.
Last time i look'd £200 was about the price of a XBOX 360 so when the pc is broken down into its differant uses it really doesnt cost that much more to play games on it that to have an xbox.
PC gaming will be here for years yet and anyone who tells you differant is either a fool or an idiot end of.
It's not bashing, Its just fact (my opinion) <----- thats priceless
