Plus its a Golf they are the best cars in the world and never ever break or wear or anything.

This gets tedious after awhile :)

OP, yes it looks like you have paid top dollar, but what's done is done.

Solid car though, looks tidy & will hold its value well. Also it's a damn site better than that abomination above it.

Enjoy it, & stay away from Halfords ;)

just wondered, do you go to dealerships a lot and blag test drives of cars?

Not so much lately as I've been too busy. Was after a car for my Mum the other week so we actually went to a private sellers house. Quickest viewing ever, left after 5 minutes politely saying it wasnt what we were after :(

OMFG £8500 didn't you pay less then that for 530i fox?? that 307 may of been chavvy but a golf gt tdi is a small time drug dealers car of choice in my area hense why i hate them.

they are seriously overpriced them golfs, i payed £6k for a 53 plate 2003 focus 1.8 tdci 115ps with 46k i thort that was pretty steep but at the time i also wanted a MINT low miler (n00b error!) now i am more happier with a 130k moon milage £1400 mondeo!!

unless you intend on looking for a new car, whats the point? why waste your time? Noticed you driven a lot of cars just for the hell of it? obviously nothing better to do.

Helps me decide what I want next and is useful for forming informed opinions on cars.

obviously nothing better to do.

As opposed to making assumptions on internet forums? :p Obviously you have far superior ways to spend your free time.

There's a lot of love for the Golf on this forum, ignore the haters. If you're happy that's all that matters :)

Although... i received a fair amount of flak for spending 5.5k on a golf .... I freely admit that I could have spent my money better elsewhere on something different.

just taking a leaf out of your book. Yep as the postcount suggests.

i still dont get why people do that sort of thing to that sort of car, its beyond me

I thought it was quite simple really, some people like to drive their cards hard so they go for modifications which would enhance their satisfaction in the performance of their cars. Then some like nothing more than making their cars look to their tastes.

I've seen many cars far more hideous than the 307 the OP posted, it's actually done alright, although the front lights are pretty gash :D

Wow, I wish I was cool enough to post on internet forums to to imply other people are sad becuase they post on internet forums. You'd better not reply, your postcount might increase and with it a little bit of your cool will die

Because it educates you. I'll drive anything I can get the keys for, even if it's something dull. At least then I can speak from experience and form my own opinion on it.

Plus surely driving cars is fun? It's obviously not as enjoyable as whatever hitmann spends every second of his free time doing (Although he appears to be posting on the internet right now) but taking a decent car for a drive hardly ranks right down with 'Watching soaps on the TV' in the fun stakes.

The more cars you drive the more you can appreciate the differences between cars and the easier it makes it to decide what you think is hot and what you think is not.

Yep, I have always enjoyed driving. My drive to work every morning is fun, yes even in a Volvo 940 it's immense fun and puts me in a good mood for the morning.

Oh and to stay on-topic, the dealer took how long to find a car to your spec? It's not like they were trying to source the Holy Grail, it's a run-of-the-mill eurobox :D Enjoy it.

It wont - becuase its £8500 for a 5 year old Golf.

How much do you think it will be worth in 3 years time?

They only hold their value well, comparatively speaking, if you buy at the right money.

Yep fair point.

I would imagine if kept tidy & with average mileage it would be worth what 4-4.5k? privately in 3 years. My point badly made was that despite the hate ;) Golfs do tend to hold value well. But as you correctly say that is of course relative to the initial purchase price.

Still no need for everyone to **** on the guys chips. I know this is a discussion forum, but I kind of guess he has realised he has paid over the odds by now.
