More Meat please! (Thread about good steak)

I agree. :) It's good to see some rational reaction to it!

I think a big problem is allot of people including my self were brought up on crap & don't think noting of it until you try the real stuff.

Like the time when i had fish&Chips but the fish was fresh from the docks the same day, the meal was free as i had done the printing for the place & asked what fish was this again as i had not tasted cod that fresh ever & have never forgotten it.

My food quality standards is on the rise.

I see burbery in the last pic. Chav.

erm......lol, I don't quite know what to say to that, I will wait for gilly to come post some random tosh about me being emo etc.

But on a side note thats a teatowel, maybe you're the chav for knowing what burberry patterns look like?

That's always good to hear. :) I was probably to the eyes of many a little spoilt growing up being France and eating good quality foods - I guess I've just become accustomed to eating well. I don't see it as a social ranking either, I genuinely believe that better quality foods are better for you.

Its a fact as it has less processed nonsense & if you look at different cultures lifespan beside genetics its the diet that has a bearing on heath at a later age.

If you live in or around the NorthWest London Area (Mill Hill, NW7), then this organic butcher is absolutley fantastic. Their fillet steak is superb!! As is all the other meat they sell!

Be warned though it's not cheap and once you have something from this place all supermarkets meat just seems average (and that includes Waitrose and M&S!)...

In fact they are the only truely registered organic butcher in North London..

NO U.

I quite like evolution. This thread just made me smile to myself. It's almost like you are displaying your 'kill' to the 'tribe' KaHn. :)

Except now it is pics of the meat over the net :D

My ribeye last night was awful. I will never ever buy supermarket steaks again.

My local Sainsburys has a choice of rib-eye steaks and I find the more expensive ones can be pretty good, where did you get yours?
I suppose that the supermarkets would be subject to region variances too?

Well I'm going back to the butchers tonight, might post picks of what I pick up :)

I know exactly what you mean. But if it's late or you can't drive then tesco express is great for local cheap food. Most of the time bread, milk etc.

Was from spasda. Just grabbed it as it was on the way home, butchers were shut and I wanted steak.

It was totally, utterly, tasteless. I cooked it in the usual way (on my griddle) and, don't get me wrong, it was juicy and tender....but just had no real discerning taste to it.

I find the best place for pre-packed meat around here is costco. But other than that, get to the butchers.

I tend to find supermarket meats vary vastly – even from the same store. One day you can get yourself a really nice cut of meat from the counter, but other times it’s just not worth looking at.

Waitrose is on the whole fairly decent, and I do try and buy my meats there if I cannot get to the local butcher. Sainsbury’s as freefaller has expressed can be fairly decent if you buy the ‘taste the difference' or counter meats.

Tesco is, for all intents not fit for purpose. Even their so call ‘finest’ range is at best just plausible. And Asda and Morrisons is only good for when on a tight budget.

I earn enough to enable me to shop at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and local farm shops and quality butchers, so I guess I’m classed as a food snob.

I was brought up on relativity cheap foods as a child, and it is only when you can afford to buy the better, farm foods from good farm shops and butchers do you realise just how cheap n nasty corporations such as Tesco, and Sainsbury’s if you don’t pick your food correctly from there can actually be.

If I couldn’t afford to buy from locally produced farm stores or butchers, then I would succumb to Asda, never Tesco, can’t stand their food, but as I can afford to buy it, I eat within my means. This means I eat well, and have good quality. I don’t smoke, drink very little, so the OP is in my minds buying just as I would…. And I wholly agree with freefallers mindset. He has, honestly got the same attitude towards food as me from the sounds of it…

Wow, all this discussion over a few slabs of meat…. Food… It’s Fantastic,,!!!!!!

Oh don't get me wrong for a quick emergency buy then yeah I'd be daft not to use what I have nearby (though I have a Spa which is actually rather well stocked and pretty decent). So yeah absolutely - I'm not an exclusive Waitrose buyer, it's just my preference and where I tend to go. :)

I currently only buy my sirloin steaks from morrisons, I'm at uni but I still have probably one a week, I spend about £45 a week on food. I might take a trip to the butchers soon and see what they've got on offer. I eat a lot of protein from lean meats, and a couple of the butchers near here look tasty. I just don't know how to buy meat lol, in what sizes etc.
