ONM - MarioKart Wii Review

What sort of characters and karts/bikes are people playing with? I always used to play medium or light characters on the DS (Dry Bones in the Dry Bomber usually) but on the Wii I'm currently playing as Rosalina in the Offroader. I like the extra weight, and the handling feels better.

IMO, it's a lot worse than the DS version. The DS version is my favourite since the original SNES Mario Kart. The tracks are great and the balance of the power-ups is almost perfect. If they removed snaking, it would be the perfect Mario Kart game for me.

Mario Kart Wii's selection of tracks is relatively poor and the weapons are too powerful - especially on the 150CC GPs. I think they also should have had the conviction to stick to a single control method. It's still good fun but it could have been a lot better.

THe snaking on the DS version of MK pretty much meant i didn't play it online. So took away a large amount of appeal for me. :(

Sorry, that is the biggest load of crap I have ever read from you on the forum, second to 'bluray winning has no place in a console forum'.

GTA is one of the most childish games I've played, and that's what makes it so fun to play :)

Blood, hoes and violence != mature/adult game.

Am looking forward to getting this after my exams in mid may, hopefully it'll be around £30 by then.

I actually think it's a good idea to have the option to use a number of different control methods, as it then gives players the option to try them all out and find which is best, rather than just being stuck with one.

Bikes are much better than karts imo. I use a light character with the last bike you unlock (trying to avoid spoilers).

For the question above about playing as a Mii, its actually the 100cc special cup you have to win to unlock this character. They are Medium class size though so I'm not using mine much currently.

By pressing on the dpad, the reason I'm now converted to wiimote nunchuck.

Their class depends on how fat you are :p

Don't let PS3 fangirls see you saying choice is good! ;)

In your vastly, vastly incorrect opinion.

Gameplay content != How mature / adult a game is.

Ask the BBFC.

You're quite the jester :)

Games that require little thought are childish games, regardless of how many red or pink pixels are flying around. I imagine GTA is also far more popular among 13 year olds than mario kart.

It's childish in a very graphic way, which ironically means it's not supposed to be sold to children, even though that's clearly one of the key markets.

The point you both make is fair, but its still foolish to refer to GTA as mature as Mario Kart considering the content.

Are you hell bent on arguing that Mario Kart is immature? Why? Because of the bright colours, simple gameplay (to grasp, that is - it's complex to excel at) and the fact that it's lots of fun?

Depends on your definition of a child though. Isn't a child someone who is 'Pre-puberty' in that case GTA isn't childish.
I do think GTA's primary target is 14-25 yo's though.

Its not an immature game in terms of skill, but it is clearly aimed to be suitable to young children. How could you argue otherwise?

How can you possibly argue that a game containing excessive violence, murder, guns, sex and various criminal activities is on a level playing field in terms of who the game is suitable for?

Take out sex and murder and you have a Loony Tunes cartoon :p

Childish/immature is a state of mind to me, not directly an age thing though.

The important thing to note is childish games aren't a bad thing at all!

Then why are people getting defensive when people say MK is childish?

MK for the Wii is childish IMO. Cartoon animation and lots of primary colours with cartoon slapstick violence is childish imo, just like a cartoon. Doesn't mean i didn't spend all weekend playing it with the GF having a blast though. I also love Tom And Jerry, The Muppets, Bugs Bunny etc

TF2 is another example of how Cartoon GFX can still equal great fun and gameplay. There's nothing wrong with a bit of non-realism.

Damn I'm going to have to get this, and Brawl too.
