Age of Conan

I've pre-ordered this and WAR although for some reason I just cannot see AoC having as much content as WAR. Although I could be wrong.

Easily wrong....

War is just another MMO nothing new. And so i hear its not even gunna be ready for release atm. People in the beta are saying its still got another year of dev at least. Its gunna flop big time.

With Regards to the outdoor zoning, how big are the zones? For me it was a really big plus when I first played WoW not having a loading screen when moving from area to area. I think I'd be pretty disapointed having to zone to get to another area I can see on the screen

It's funny because there seems to be quite a lot new in WAR.

Guild cities which can level and unlock quests
Siege
RVR
New questing system
Nice engine

There's probably more but I'm not sure on the points.

From some comments I've read on the beta forum the zones are pretty huge, of course this may not be the case but it sounded genuine.

Erm zones range in sizes.

So for example Conalls valley is pretty large, i'd say in wow comparison, probably as large as ashenvale. Takes a good 20mins to get from one end to the other.

Then you have small zones like Khemi which is about the size of rage fire chasm.

But with the loading times reduced massively, you don't really mind clicking on the gate.

How would you like to put your money where your mouth is? How about you pay for my WAR account for 1 year if WAR doesnt "flop big time" ? and I will pay for your AoC account for 1 year if WAR does flop big time. Of course we would have to define "flop big time", so lets see..what might construe something as major as "flop big time"...shall we say gets less than 250k subscribers?

No? no ..didnt think so.

Fact of the matter is that both WAR and AoC should do well enough, both should get reasonable subscription numbers. WAR doesnt have another year of dev to go, god only knows which beta phase you are basing that info on, but certainly it isnt the current one. In fact in terms of being ready for release, I would say that AoC currently has more core systems left to be implemented than WAR.

However..I do think that in terms of content AoC will have more content than WAR. AoC is slightly more PvE orientated than WAR and as such will have more content than the largely player based "content" of WAR.

But flops big time? Thats laughable..neither will flop big time, and if you truly believe that WAR will, then like I say, put your money where your mouth is.

So much fanboism goes on in this industry, no idea why people cant look at things objectively.

Again, I would agree with Teki on this, there is a variety of zonal sizes, some are pretty big, others are smaller. I wouldnt be overly concerned with the zoning from one land zone to another land zone.

I don't think 250k is a flop, except in terms of developer expectations. I've seen estimations that suggest LOTRO may have something in the region of this number. I don't think an MMO needs *that* many subscribers to continue as a viable project. Obviously it's nice from a subscriber viewpoint to be playing a game with a vast user base as it ensures very long-term funding and everyone wants their game of choice to be popular.

Anyway, I'm hoping that both Warhammer and AoC get well over 500k long term subscribers. It's needed in order to keep the market competitive and hopefully give the people who (under) fund WoW something of a kick up the chuff. They've trundled along for far too long, safe in the knowledge that there's no competition.

Totally agree, I dont think 250k is a flop either, let alone a big time flop...I was throwing out a figure which might be acceptable to the bet :)

I predict that both WAR and AoC will achieve something in the region of 500k-1million in long term subscriptions

Gotcha, so there are like gates and doors to access from zone to another, its not like going from Durotar to the barrens, and just zoning when you hit the border?

Okay, i take back flop. But from everything i've seen the release date they have given isn't gunna happen. If they do manage to release it on that date with it looking finished fair play to them. Personally the game doesn't appeal to me. I said the same about WoW though and now i play that a lot. So i'll let ya know in a year.

And wordy yes you get a 1sec lag as you move between. The Cinematics in AOC are awsome!

You get to see the other charactors still running about.

It makes me laugh that you are concerned WAR won't be finished on time yet are playing a game that is vastly pushing it's PvP with no real ingame content.

The release date for this is only a matter of weeks away (again it's been pushed back by 8 weeks so they originally said it would be out by now!).

Obviously AoC is not finished. But is that stopping it from being released? Apparantly not.

Well which release date do you mean? The only release date they have currently given is Q3 2008. So thats July through to September. If you are asking me if they can hit a september release, then I most definately say yes. July might be pushing it slightly though

Yeah you have physical gates that stop you from walking through, you just right click and 2-10 secs later your in the zone.

Its not as bad as you think, it works really well imo.

Its not reliant on PVP. Why do they have RP/ PvE servers otherwise.? I think you need to look at the PvE of AOC before commenting on it.

TBH i'm not bothered about WAR. I won't be playing it.

The main thing that's being thrown about is the PvP - it's a massive part of the game. The sieges, raids, etc. are suppossed to be THE reason to buy this game. Every interview, video, etc. I've seen has highlighted this.

Even in the PvE Worlds there will be border areas where PvP is acceptable. It's the same on LOTRO it's a PvE server with a PvP battleground (same on WoW, etc.).

I'm not bothered about WAR - I'm just disappointed that a game is going to be released when it isn't ready.

P.S. Source of all my 'revelations' are the discussions and the comments that the Dev's have put forward happily available from the homepage, etc.

I hope this game will take the lead of current MMO's, but reading about on what people have been saying about it it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Imo WoW is the only current one worth playing, all the others are crap, I tried LOTRO and that was something I just couldn't get into.

I really do hope AOC will take me away from WoW as WoW is getting very dull, that might change when WOTLK comes out though.

The major thing is the battle system. Yes it will change PVP massivily - People generally are pulled by PVP. But also all other aspects of the game at the same time. Personally i like to play on a PVE server - With a pvp charactor on a PVP server for fun too.

Don't want to turn this into a AoC vs WAR fanboy flaming match...

But I see endgame pvp being far better in WAR than it will be in AoC. Mythic have designed WAR with this in mind right from the very start, and for me at least endgame pvp makes or breaks the longevity of a MMorpg.
