Death Note was excellent up to the end where IMO it was trying too hard to be clever. It is definately worth watching.

@Werewolf:

i also enjoyed gunslinger girls , was a nice little aside at only 13 eps. I hadnt realised the was a second series tho , so I may try and catch that at some point.

I agree with you that macross zero was mostly eye candy, i didnt think the story was that gd either. Macross frontiers story seems to be starting better, at least its a little more coheisive, some fan service and nice battles too if all else fails.

@sheffaaf27, i recommend Trigun, its pretty hilarious and good story as well. its about this guy called Vash the Stampede , a master gunslinger, whos supposedly invincinable but in reality a bit of a loser, but funny nonetheless!

Just finished watching the Vision of Escaflowne.

Usually im wary of mecha type animes, because there are so many bad mecha series out there, but this actually turned out to be really good. the mecha was part of the story rather than the focus, and there was enough going on with the storyline to keep me interested. Apparently Heroic Age is similar so im going to give that a go, im still wary of it though.... there are big robots involved.

After that ive been recommended Hikaru no Go, and Juuni Kokki. Sigh, so much anime so little time.

ok i will watch that then, any others?

Cowboy Bebop.

Most people who've seen it would agree its one of the best series they've seen. And for many it was what got them into anime in the first place, i know it was for me. I think its only 24-26 episodes long so it wont take long to watch, and its pretty much garenteed you'll enjoy it, the sound track alone is the best sound track on any anime series ive seen.

Anyone watched Vexille yet. Saw it last night and it is very gd, comparable to appleseed ex machina, as it is the same producers, but overall well paced and some v.good action scenes.
Recommended.

Saw it in the cinema a few months ago, absolutely blew me away! :) Brilliant action in the best classic cyberpunk traditions! It looked great as well, I've never seen animation and CGI blended together so well before.

Is this good or bad?

I think it's bad myself as it's not something I want to change. Once you change the artist style you change you movie.

Personally it makes me sad. I don't see how they could do it better than the creators, so they'll try to change it, thereby ruining it for the fans. But even if it's a decent adaptation I doubt I would personally be able to enjoy it if the characters look and sound different.

I have a question thats beating me up..

I've watched the latest Naruto Ship episode:

why does kakeshi refer to captain yamato as jiraiya-sama?

Bebop is great, the music is/was released on CD in the states I think (at least some of the CD's were).
IIRC there is a 4 disk box set that has most/the main tracks (and some live ones).

I've actually been listening to some some of the Bebop, Macross, Haruhi and GITS music since rebuilding my PC (whilst scanning slides etc), I can't remember the last time I did that.

If you like the Bebop music the Ghost in the Shell TV, Wolf's Rain, and Macross Plus (awesome soundtrack*) were also done by Yoko Kanno:)

I've just finished watching Agent Aika (got the Bandai re-release), which is pretty silly, but fun - I've not seen so many pairs of panties in an anime since Najica, and even then I'm fairly certain Aika has more, it's got some interesting camera angles as well :p

Talking of Haruihi, apparently as well as us getting the LE's of the DVD's (i've already got them on preorder), they are going to aim to release the books/GN's here at the same time as the states :D

*One of my better anime buys was a "bundle of anime ost's" that Rightstuf did a while back, from memory it had
Macross Plus OST 1, Macross Plus OST, Macross 2 OST, and the Irresponsible Captain Tylor (TV and OVA) OST's for about $15 - cheap because they were released by TRSI in the states and had been returned due to damaged cases (I think about 3 had cracked case fronts, and a couple had damaged hinges).

Had a three hour car journey yesterday so it was the Anime OST playlist on the iPod which got used ... quite a mixture of things, (including Haruhi and GITS :) ). Need to put the Clannad OST cd on there at the weekend.

Agent Aika is a quality series ... i got a DVD off of the bay of it a while a go (which turned out to be a bit dubious) and it look totally pantitastic ;) ... have ordered up the new release to watch which should be a better quality transfer

I already have the Wolfs Rain soundtrack :).

Ordered the 4 disk box set the other day from the US, just waiting on that to arrive now!

Also ordered the Bebop movie :).

Wolf's Rain comes in two box sets. The second part of the series comes in a 3 disc set, so you'll need to pick that up as well.

Yeah I have all the Wolf's Rain bits, I meant ordering the Cowboy Bebop stuff :).

If you enjoyed Cowboy Bebop then I would recommend Samurai Champaloo which is created and directed by the same bloke as Cowboy Bebop. Shinichiro Watanabe

Watched disk 1 of Kujibiki Unbalance earlier, that's episodes 1-4 plus one Genshiken OVA episode. Generally it was all ok but it felt weaker and not as well animated as the original Genshiken series and KU OVA episodes, (I also prefer the theme music by Under17 on the original KU OVA episodes).

The Genshiken OVA episode seemed particularly weak to me although that may be due to having read through the original manga with in the last few months.

Ah well, had a shipment notification for the Lucky Star disk 1 LE boxset and Kanon disk 4 ... as well as some OST CDs from Amazon JP (although hopefully Fedex don't screw up customs billing this time and take 3 months to offer a refund like they did with my last order from there).
