*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

id rather have it sharp and aliased tbh. actually looking at it, the resolution is very close to how games apear on the ps3 when you run them at 576p. obviously that isnt right for a title like gta4

PS3 and 360 look similar when I tried them on the bedroom TV (32", 720p).
On my TV downstairs (46", 1080p) the 360 is evidently better looking. a lot crisper/sharper textures and less aliasing. The PS3 version (I've been told its 630p, not true 720p) is obviously being scaled too much and it shows up 'blurred' jaggies (don't know how to explain them). Needless to say, its the 360 version I'm going to be keeping :)
I've also not been able to get into a single PS3 online game. (A little irony after everyone was saying how XBL would fall over, and at least PSN was reliable)

pedestrians? accessable buildings? people in cars talking and moving?

burnout has not these things

Either I've missunderstood you, but that is what he was saying as well mate.

He is saying the GTAIV graphics are beautiful and that Burnout comparitavely only has a large map.

Accessible buildings would do nothing to the framerate and to be honest I don't think pedestrians & people in cars would make that much of a difference. Eitherway Burnout is crisp & sharp and GTA IV isn't

i actually thought about comparing sa on the pc and gta4 on the ps3 on the same tv. might open some eyes lol

im not really complaining but it is really, REALLY blurry

not just me then

ive got the PS3 edition as well, and having gone from playing GT5 Prologue with photo realism 1080p, to this, its an obvious step down.

Dont get me wrong, its an excellent game, but the screenshots of the 360 version show what we're missing as PS3 gamers.

I think the graphics are fantastic...really good. Quite unusual but once you get over the initial 'shock' of it being different...well, i have to say they've created the best looking 'world' for a long time. It's so vibrant and active, so much going on. The sun setting behind the cityscape...the skyscrapers shimmering on the water. It's something else.

Its true. I really don't understand how the majority of the review sites said the PS3 version is better looking?! Glad I got both copies to decide for myself, will definately be keeping the 360 version.

I knew someone would bring this up, firstly only an idiot would compare it to Crysis etc... I compared it to Burnout Paradise; a game that has a massive enviroment like GTA. And looks imo 10x better

Burnout does look a lot better but the reason why is you have no where near as much stuff going on. All you have in Burnout is traffic. No pedestrians, cops, motorbikes, drivers in the cars etc. All that extra stuff going on has clearly had an impact on how much power is left for the graphics.

When you look at the early trailers the graphics looked a lot better than they do in the actual game, but then tweaking framerate is normally one of the jobs in the final stages of production. With the amount of time R* have put into the game and given that there was a 6 month delay, I'm sure they have got the graphics looking as good as they could given the scope of the game IMO.

Why do people never mention the extra CPU the game uses to run all the AI and physics routines? With all this extra stuff going on there's probably not enough CPU cycles left to provide the GPU with enough data to process!

Personally I think the game looks beautiful for it's scale.
