BT Internet Sucks

I'm on BT unlimited () and I've been on there fair usage policy for months now because I download over 50GB a month.

Yes BT does suck. It sucks even more when you're sharing between 16 people each paying £10 a month for a pretty basic 8Mbit connection. But that's probably more down to being ripped off by the landlords than BT.

 How did they justify £160 for a £30 service?

On BT (BUSINESS!) broadband since 1year 2months ago. About 8 months ago they started capping me at <=1meg during the daytime, which is somewhat ridiculous between 3 computers

I can now get Be but need to cancel, which I'm sure means I have to pay £330+ because I'm on a 2year contract, anyone got any idea if I can get them to waiver that? :p

I'm with BT Internet and have the "middle" package - I was allowed to download just 8GB a month and I managed it. Every GB after my allowance is charged at 30p. However recently they have upgraded my allowance to 18GB for no extra charge. I don't have many issues to be honest. I get a reasonable download rate and I'm happy with 18GB per month.

I think they exclude VAT on the remaining months when you cancel.
Should be in the T&Cs... else I read wrong.

I phoned BT the other day, they said best they could offer me (to renew contract) was £19.99/month for Option 3. I said no.

i am on BT and download around 200-350GB each month, the only thing they do is 5pm-11.30pm is cap me to 60kb/sec before and after that time i get the 850ish - which to me is a fair enough deal :)

i've been on BT Business unlimited since 2003 (back then it actually was unlimited), starting on a 512kb/s connection, initially they were excellent, and they've just been getting worse and worse ever since.

recently i downloaded about 6GB in one day (some game patches, CoD4 direct-download from steam) and BT cut my internet speed down to about 200b/s

anyway, i wrote them a very nasty letter concerning Terms of usage this and that, breach of contract etc, and requested my MAC code.

i had it the next day :D

should be migrating to Be* Pro on monday!

We're on BT and use about 150gb a month, but we only seem to get capped on a per-day basis. My housemate who does the lions share of downloading wasn't home last week and we had the full 8mb all day - when he came back we're back down to about 1mb during peak times!

First off I am AMAZED how people can use so much internets!

I am with Zen and I have found them to be exceptional. I was with Vispa from day 1 when I went ADSL on my exchange and they were fine, but over time they got overloaded and their service went down hill. I went Zen and since then I have been very happy. I get 5200kbps speeds day in day out, ZERO slowdown even at busy times and I have not had the line drop once.

Mind you, my exchange only has 354 properties on it, but with Vispa I was seeing 1200kbps and slower at busy times. I can recommend Zen very highly but at the end of the day we have no LLU so we are still using the BT services, and its fine.

I'm stuck with ADSL since cable ends about 250Yards down the road :( But I have to say I've had NO problems at all with BT. Admittedly I'm a million miles from the exchange so I get a crappy speed but that would be the same whichever ISP I went through.
Never been capped (usage ~50Gb a month) free giganews (@150k :( ) The only niggle is the possible packet shaping on torrents, but I use them so little it's not a problem.

Also another member of the fair usage gang, i download on average 50-60gig a month, but it can go up and down a lot, while at the computer (which is a long time) i often have a 128k radio stream going and that seems to eat up quite a bit on its own, but its nothing compared to the rest of the stuff i do.
So far this month i have been pretty good and not downloaded too much, few things here and there under a gig so, if i can keep this up for another 24 days they might relax the 50k cap to 250k like they did a while back.
Im used to it now, but if you want the latest game update for say COD at a peak time...kinda sucks.

Quite surprised they stuck me on it, i normally downloaded large files over night.
As for torrents, they don't seem to go more than 5k after 2pm until 1am...but then again i hardly use them.

My connection used to be metered, but it is no more thanks to product restructuring thats placed mine in as business class with unmetered traffic. :)

I wish the government would force the internet providers to roll out fibre to every home, regardless of cost.

At least then I don't have to pay the same for my connection as someone who's closer, yet get a 10x speed difference :(
