Just hit the motherload

I think the OP's flipant title of "motherload" says it all. I don't deny anyone the right to assistance if they are in trouble (that is a foundation of our society and political system throughout the last century) but for a council handout to actually be good enough to be described as the motherload, we have a problem.

I pay about £3000 a year in council tax and just requested that the council collect an old matress from my house (a service they offer). They have charged me over £30 and missed three promised dates for the pickup hence i look like a ***** with a matress outside!

As with income tax there are those of us that pay and pay and get nothing in return, same with council tax.

So those little reciepts annoy you?

If I were forced out my residence to somewhere else regardless I'd expect the same.

Forced out of a council flat into a new home still being on the council... why on earth should they be given compensation given that they are getting a better place STILL ON THE COUNCIL!!!

Single people earning £20k should be the last on the list to be getting a council place or a HA place.

Don't you think a teacher deserves it?

i think this totally depends where the people live! 20K in one place of the country is worth a lot more than 20K in a differnt part.

he wont be renting off the council as the new properties will be housing association

also they will cost more to rent

afaik hes a key worker so gets slightly higher on the list

but anyways i dont see the problem of him getting a council home, 20k is not a lot especially after tax and NI

Why dont you direct all your complaints towards the councils and councillors who take backhanders and bungs in order to go through with these developments.

The council will make more a hell of a lot more cash selling this space off to the private housing places than it will spend of our "taxpayers money"

God knows why people get so bitter over this.

this is exactly am on about in my above post!

20k would be a lot for me aorund this area. but you are saying its not much.

totally depends where your living

I'm sorry but there is nowhere in the uk that a single person can't live on 20k comfortably unless they are stupid, you just have to use your loaf.

if your renting in central london how much is that costing per month?

the fact that there is a lot of debt means chances are they are paying back money every month as well.

bills on the up

petrol on the up

for me, i could easily live on 20K i do it now on 9k (living at home though to be fair :p)

Threads like this just showcases the selfishness and meanness of spirit of some poeple brilliantly. Some one comes on saying he's had a bit of good luck, and becuase other people haven't had the same they automatically decry the OP and make assumptions of his lifestyle without knowing anything about him.

The same happens when we get talking about pay and conditions for Servicemen etc, Some people think just because I don't get it, no one else should. I find it a sad way of thinking, and shows how much more self centred people attidues are becoming, compared with the past.

TBH allt hese people moaning are just jelous....

Yes, I'm jealous, and I have a ******* god dam right to be, theres no shame in it, I work my balls off, lower my accommodation standards to have more money to save for a better future and then you see/hear about people like the original poster that is in no need of any financial assistance getting a payout and a free upgrade like that off the backs of hard working tax payers that are paying a hell of allot more money into the system than he is, **** yeah I'm jealous.

man some people in here live in cuckoo land.nice to hear some good things happening to someone for once.hope its a nice place and all gos well.

but its not 20k is it, take off tax and NI your left with about £15k ? so £1250pm

average rent up here is about £450 pm and that would be for a house thats probably on a council estate but privately owned

£100pm gas electric water bills ?
£100pm council tax
£250pm food / supplies
£30pm home insurance
£200pm car/petrol/tax insurance ?

anything else that could be added?

it doesnt really go a long way when you add it all up
