GTX 280 first impressions

do you feel it's a worthy upgrade to 8800GTX?

what's the minimal FPS on Crysis Very High benchmark which scored 21FPS in the first post?

It's a shame 3dmark '06 is just so lame at everything, people can't see the scores due to their clouded quad core goggles.
Certainly looks like a nice step up from the 8800GTX and I'd hope that future driver releases improve things.
Kudos for doing benchmarks! :D
 
Why dont they design it so that the bracket goes the other way (the screw hole that is), that way there would be no chance for it to move as there would be a bit of metal (screw) stopping it :D
 
If he used the other hole it would be secure as its cant fall down or push up.

I have no screws in any of my Add In cards, the case is toolless.

Yep, really cool to see some genuine real-life results. I'm really tempted to grab one providing I get a decent price for the ultra, could even be a reasonably "cheap" upgrade. :D

Reckon I can squeeze maybe 250 for it on "well known auction site" - ed...
 
im glad it runs on a corsair hx520, at least it will work with mine then. glad about that, thanks!

my psu came with 2 6pin cables and they have an extra 2 pin cable coming of the end of the 6pin cable. im guessing this is essentially 8pin as id rather not clutter my case with molex adapters and such. (get that sorted - for me :) its doing my head in lol)

i think the answer to the "i have a gtx or better, should i upgrade",
because the gtx can pretty much play any game out now at max settings and not at low frames either. however i would have thought if you can make do till prices drop (i guess in a few months) then it would be a good upgrade to the gtx280. if those benchmarks posted on this thread are anything to go by. (end discussion)
 
I've been playing Crysis in DX 10 mode with everything on Very High except Shadows and Motion Blur on High. Getting about 30fps like this which is perfectly fine in Crysis IMO.

Say what you like about the game but the actual graphics are on another level, its seriously crazy. I myself quite like the gameplay as well!

ordered mine yesterday with next day before noon delivery funnily enough didnt turn up, phoned the office and they said they hadnt shipped it untill this morning so it would be tomorrow before noon.

its a funny take on "next day"

ah well they said they will refund my postage cost and im sure i can wait 24 hours for it.
