Behind you... Naked!
Quick run down on my PC useage as of late...

AMD Socket A
Progressed to 939 and then dual core through to Opteron Dual core.

Very very happy with it all

Buy an E6300 to see what hype is about, then an E6600 then E2180 and now my 2 main PCs are E9550 and Q6600... Nuff said.

Im considering going back to AMD... Not for any particular reason other than I just miss the fact that I truly am an AMD FanBoy at heart.

Now, big is the gap between AMD and intel these days?

What AMD CPU is comparable with what Intel?

Hmmm..Id accept that.

Ok then, my No2 system is a Q6600, Its running at stock but is stable at 3.6.

My No1 is a 9450 ( Not a 9550 as I posted ) and thats also stock, but not tried clocking that... yet!

What AMD would be an equivalent of these?

I see no reason to go lower spec just for the sake of it being AMD, but lets be honest, the higher scale of PCs these days are just so ridiculously overpowered that even if they dropped in speed by 50% I doubt half of us would notice for a while... I suppose thats why Im not bothered to clock anywhere near as much as I used to.

Im guessing you mean without overclocking? A 3.2ghz E2140 is going to slaughter pretty much anything for value.

Without overclocking, which by the way isn't guaranteed. Certainly not 100% overclocks...also, X2s can overclock as well, and theres a 45nm range of processors about to be released, so I wouldn't write off AMD just yet.

I have to agree with the above. AMD are fine for basic home server / media centre duties but for anything where performance counts they can't touch intel these days.

I've two AMD systems, one a media center - AM2 Dual core and one my server s939 dual core.

For anything gaming or production related ... Intel... sad but true.....

come on you greens

your also forgetting that AMDs phenom gets progressively faster as you overclock, it scales differently from core, you see phenoms aren't at all slower than the intels really, there just hampered by a slow L3 cache, so there overclocked this begins to hamper there performance less and less until i think the phenom is actually slightly faster clock for clock than the intels, theres NO reason at all to not go AMD if you want to, and as SR4470 said AMD are still a force to be reckoned with price/performance speaking, unless your a hardcore overclocker you'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever tell the difference :p

Wow, that's one of the stupidest things I've read on here.

Well you would see it that way at your age as it not very clever to point out the obvious and even more so when the OP has stated so.
If it gives him pleasure purely because its an AMD & no other factors im not going to put him down as he already knows the alternatives & don't need telling by anyone.

WHY?

Its no different to someone who used to own a make of car and simply wanting to get that make again? - no different at all.

Whether its an Intel or an AMD, they dont do any particular job any better! - sure, some are faster than others but they still do the same job!

What a perfectly neutral answer.

Thank you.

Oh, and just for you to know, I have placed my order for the 9950 Black Edition, and coupled it with a Gigabyte DS3 Mobo ( I only opted for DS3 cos I love the DS3 775 Mobos, Im thinking thatt his will be as reliable as my DS3, S3, DS4 are )

I will sell off perhaps my E2180 setup to recoup the costs.

Sure, why not!

Gigabyte GA MA770 DS3

I have the Socket 775 Gigabyte boards and while the S3/DS3 have the most useless NB Heatsink, I have been 100% happy with gigabyte boards on the 775 Platform, sure, there may well be better but you go with what you know I suppose?

I mean, going by a whoel different platform, it may very well be a mistake to go with it just because its got DS3 in the name, but at 50 notes, its worth the gamble... Especially since my Socket775 DS3 cost me 3 times that much back then!

But, Both board and Chip come to under 2 ton, and the rest of it is interchangeable with the rest of the junk, so I recon Ill be happy with it.

Actually different cars have different feels and interior designs, this is a processor and they will all 'feel' the same.

If they all feel the same, then why was my earlier statement, in your own words "one of the stupidest things I've read on here" ?

Actually, IMO they dont at all feel the same.

Aslo FatRakoon, please post how you get on with it. :)

Will do mate... Im looking forward to it.

Ill run some benchies too!

Well it might sound stupid to some but i have always been amd and it was a wrench going to intel but it did seem the best choice. Hope it works as well as you hope m8.

Well whatever then, I think it' stupid but fair enough.

I have gone with AMD since the 386 DX/40

I once swapped my Slot A 600 for a Celeron 900 and whe nI asked for the Athlon back, the guys at the shop laughed me.

I have pretty much stuck with AMD since, and only a few times dipped my toes into Intel waters, but never owned one.

The simple facts is however, that I had my Opteron clocked to buggery and I was king of the hill and tried a stock C2D and it blew the nuts off my AMD, so moving to Intel was only a natural progression.

However, things are changing, AMD are now hot on the heels of Intel and the gap is closing every day, Intel are on *** verge of a 6 core CPU and AMD are on 12 FFS so, once AMD release that, Intel are going to lose out again ( All speculative hear say but... )

Well whatever then, I think it' stupid but fair enough.

And we are back to it being stupid again.

What is it with you and your trolling?
You are calling my choices stupid but you dont give a reason?

Surely no one should need to justify their choice of PC?
