LBP overhyped much?

it probably was ,so this game must be hyped as all them games on the 360 was deffo overhyped so this obvisouly must be too, but for me i'm more excited about this than any of them other titles as i'm more of a person that loves platform style games which hopefully untill now has sorely been missed on this gen consoles unless you own a wii also.

Mass Effect and PGR4 were over-hyped? I wouldn't say so.

I would say ME was. It didn't quite meet a lot of peoples' expectations, and was plagued by engine issues such as framerate dips, poor texture streaming, glitchy AI behaviour, odd loading patterns, and so on. The second all the 8/10 reviews started coming in, everyone realized it wasn't quite going to be the blockbuster it was touted to be.

The only thing hyped about PGR4 was its weather and bikes and it excelled in both.

ME was hyped but I never got on the train and I enjoyed it.

I got sucked into the hype of GTA 4 and was left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Thing is though, as usual this is down to personal preference, Yeah the fabled line has been said.

But its true. What is over hyped to some, will be right on the money for others.

I like Mass Effect, But I would say it was massively over hyped.

The only thing I don't get is how people are looking forward to LBP so much because it lets you be creative yet not many are looking forward to the new Banjo Kazooie game.

The game does look pretty intriguing, and I'm not really into "create-your-own-world" games as a rule of thumb. I suspect that if you're the sort of person who loves games like Spore, The Sims, etc then you'd love LBP for similar reasons... and there is a lot of people who play The Sims.

I'll be buying it simply because it does look fun to play, and at the end of the day isn't that what counts?

(Incidentally every iteration of Halo has been hyped to ridiculous levels and have all ended up being mediocre-by-PC-standards FPS games that haven't really innovated at all. At least LBP justifies a large part of its hype on pure originality)

This game is hyped, but its hyped for a reason, it looks good. Im hoping it lives up to the hype as well to be honest as Ive been let down to many times. :( Like Halo 3, that just sucked.

Not it didn't. It might not have been the perfect fps but it was far from rubbish.

Yes they've been hyped

But they have outdone the majority of PC shooters for what they're trying to do.

And yes they have innovated.

I've seen vids of levels which have racing, fighting and even some sport levels like one were you had to score a penalty to proceed

Guess i need to watch some more previews of it. Only seen 2 or 3 platformy ones.

And tbh it seemed to be a PSN type game. If you know what i mean....hrmm how do i explain..

RRP probably £30 or £40 for it? which if my suspicions are correct is hideously overpriced imo

How? I haven't seen anything in Halo that I haven't seen in run-of-the-mill FPS games circa 2003. Halo 3 doesn't even look much better than the first Unreal Tournament.

What is it that they're "trying to do" exactly? Make a by-the-numbers FPS that is unremarkable in almost every respect besides being an Xbox exclusive?

I've been playing first person shooters on PC since the days of Wolvenstein 3D, yet I still love the Halo games so there must be something remarkable there. If its 'by-the-numbers' then what game is it like exactly? There have been lots of attempts to beat it since (even the mighty CoD has taken influence from it) but there was very little like it before. Halo 3 does look better than UT, thats just a ridiculous comment.

When I say trying to do I mean they aren't trying to make an unreal tournament or a battlefield 2, they're completely different multiplayer experiences. Halo aims to achieve something quite different and its sales and position in the online charts testify to its success. The main reason PC gamers like to insult Halo is because it was taken from them, if it had been released on PC it would have been hailed as a great game.

Oh dear. :)

For someone who makes a point of parading their FPS history like its a badge of honour you need to do a bit of revision methinks :D

Halo (and Halo 2) were released on PC and got very lukewarm reviews, of particular note is Gamespots review which says "Halo 2 for Vista is a solid game that probably won't appeal to anyone who's played any recent high-profile PC shooters." Hmm, didn't I just say that?

As for sales & position in the charts - well, just look at Apple. If they can flog a substandard phone to legions of fanboys who would buy it even if it only held a charge for 10 minutes a day then imagine what Microsoft can do? Halo is, was and ever shall be hyped to ridiculous levels just because its Microsoft/Bungies little lovechild. As such it's no great surprise that it sold so well to masses of Xbox owners who don't know any better.

I'm not saying Halo is a crap game, I'm just saying that - like LBP perhaps - it doesn't merit the amount of hype it's given. I am expecting LBP to be fun, but I don't think it's going to start spinning the globe in the opposite direction.

I am not stupid, I am well aware that Halo 1 and 2 are on PC. When I said come to PC, I meant simultaneously not much, much later and a fairly poor port. Nor was i parading my FPS history like a badge of honor, just making ti clear that Halo wasn't my first FPS and I have a large range of titles to compare it to.

You failed to name all these 'high-profile' shooters that are like Halo?

You say it only appeals to Xbox owners who know no better, yet I am clearly not in that category and neither are all my friends who play it, all of them have gaming PCs. It can't be compared to Apple products, Apple products sell because they are perceived to be fashion products, obviously this doesn't apply to the Halo series.

Its a fairly generic sci-fi shooter tbh. The first one was good for its time, I loved multiplayer vehicles and stuff but the game is far from groundbreaking. I dont get why its so hyped, probably because its a 360 exclusive? ;) Multiplayer aspects were the only thing that I would consider good about it, the aiming system is just as poor as the plot as well, I dont find any of them special.

No you didn't, so don't try and backpeddle now :)

You said "The main reason PC gamers like to insult Halo is because it was taken from them, if it had been released on PC it would have been hailed as a great game". That's not an ambiguous statement, if you'd meant "at the same time" you would've said that to begin with.

As for the "high profile shooters" comment - it's from the Gamespot review, I didn't say it. Of what I've seen of Halo from watching friends playing it pretty much every FPS I've come across on PC has been better than it. Halo is a very simplistic FPS with console-based controls with no redeemable qualities whatsoever. Other than the fact it is an Xbox exclusive it is - imo anyway - unremarkable in every way.

Exactly.
