TF2 Heavy Update

Im also not a huge fan of the fact that TF2 games often revolve around who has the most medics :/ and who gets to use their uber at the best time.

Using an uber at the "best" time is player skill, communication, awareness of the game and (the clue is in the title) teamwork!! Sure any noob medic can hide in a sentry protected tunnel, build and uber and do some damage but to win a round against a good defence requires planning and team work.

Good players always rise to the top.

I mean whats the point of getting good at a game if randomness owns j00!

Just because you forget all the times you got crits and got kills but remember all the times you got "owned" doesn't mean they're unfair or hinder skilful players

Good players always rise to the top.

The good players know how to use their weapons!

Crits are random and by their very nature they apply equally to good and bad players. They're not something exclusive to noobs.

So........good players always rise to the top.

A Heavy with a medic isnt exactly easy to kill so now hes gonna run at you swinging his fists around till he hits something and next thing you know youll have 3 seconds of Minigun crits flying your way or 3-4 crit shotgun shots in the face :(

Unless you stand on the spot how is a heavy "running" at you going to punch you in the face? If you're close enough to a heavy to get punched you *deserve* critz to the face :p

GG Stating the obvious :P

Yes everyone can crit and the new weapons arent adding much more critting to the whole game etc blah blah blah

My main problem is with crits being in the game. They just shouldnt be there. The game is so much more fun without crits :(

If its obvious why have 3+ posts arguing the toss?

Fortunately for you there are plenty of no crit servers out there for you to play on........for the rest of us who enjoy the highs and lows of crits, there are even more vanilla servers :p

How this for an idea, we get an anti crit generator for the heavy so instead of a shotgun he gets a generator that makes him walk even slower but cancels all crit attacks within x amount of distance.

Would be a real useful add-on for any team.

UPDATE: Badwater Basin - Payload Map

Badwater Basin is a Payload map focusing on more open spaces and less chokepoints than Gold Rush. (A) Right out of the gate is a multi-level area where the Blu team needs to control the high ground while moving the cart through a tunnel below. This open area has few natural choke points, allowing Scouts, Soldiers, and Demomen to move creatively through the space, forcing the Red team to rapidly respond to choices made by Blu. (B) As the track winds its way into tighter spaces, vertical control becomes more important. Each successive checkpoint requires the Blu team to take control of defensive positions above the track, usually occupied by Red Engineers. (C) Eventually the track winds down into a large basin which the Blu team must assault from all sides in a final push to destroy the Red base.

Unlike Gold Rush, where the track is split into three separate stages, Badwater Basin uses a single large stage with several checkpoints. As a result, the Blu team is highly encouraged to push the cart hard after beating their way through the Red defensive line.

Ok so last night I bought the game as you know, I played for a while and there are a few questions I would really like answering. I normally play CS:S so the fast pace, if im honest was rather fun and refreshing and I wasn't to bad at it racking up a fair few kills and assists. Anyway here are my questions.

1) Can you change character in game i.e. change to a medic once dead etc
2) CS:S has a map at the top left, is there a map anywhere on TF2?
3) How do I work out what the hell is going on most of the time?

I found myself running around aimlessly with a group of my team trying to take a point in a match which ended stall mate every game telling us we all lost :(

First impressions are pretty good, it makes a good change and introduces some funky new aspects over CS:S just wish I understood what was going on.

Also how do I use things I pick up in the game? Sorry for the noob questions but hey we all start somewhere. Probably should have read something before starting?

Arguing? :P Theres no argument here... crits just suck!

Yes, there are plenty of no crit servers but since theyre all pushed to the custom map tab usually and 90% of TF2 players are to retarded to find that tab, this means that all the no crit servers are empty apart from the ones being used for clan matches :P

Shame all the ones with crappy fast spawns or insta spawns arent pushed to the custom tab too :(

Can change character as much as you want! default key is comma I think ( , ) If you change class in your spawn area then it changes instantly but if you change class outside you die and wait for a respawn :) unless you disable that option anyway.

Theres no radar in TF2 like there is in CSS! Sometimes I wish there was :/

As for knowing whats going on... its just a case of learning the maps and reading up on what the different maps are

TC maps
CP maps
CTF maps
PL maps and whatever else they bring out.

1) Press "," when you die to choose a different class :)
2) There's no map per-se, but the majority of the maps are very linear. Watch the tutorial video before each new map?
3) close your eyes, use the force :p

By default '.' & ',' are team/class change... While in a respawn you can change class immediately. If you do it outside a respawn you die and have to wait to respawn (eg: 5-10 seconds).

Try sticking to a few maps to learn their layout - 'Granary' is a good simple one... Stick with the simpler classes to start with, eg: soldier or pyro. Use google to find out tips for classes...

You can't pick up anything other than metal/ammo & weapons (which are also metal/ammo).

Simple tip, learn where the health is on a level and make it your friend. You'll be surprised how many people carry on fighting rather than going just 20-30ft to get some health quickly before returning to fight... Try and stick with one or two of your team mates while getting the hang of things...

Thanks for the help :) I Shall learn to use the force!! Funny, the one thing I did notice last night, might just be the server but there didn't seem to be much of a community thing... chat etc. I asked these questions in game and got either no reply or laughed at.

I think its just a case of finding the right server tbh!

Anybody recomend me some good *Noob* servers?

Thnx
Vince

TBH community servers (I've used) seem very unfriendly places, with little text or voice chat. For a team orientated game no one wants to talk and help anyone else... TFC seemed far better in this department for some reason...

TBH Ive never really found an FPS game where people like sitting there typing too much :P

Best you can do is find some people who know the game and get on Vent / Teamspeak with em :)

Either that or browse through some of the various TF2 Wiki websites and read up on the classes.

If youve never played games like Quake or UT or any deathmatch sorta games, it might be worth reading up guides on those too since a lot of the usual deathmatch skills apply etc :) Like learning maps, learning where health and ammo is and how often it respawns etc.

In TFC you'd find a lot of people telling each other where SGs or enemies were etc (on public servers).

In TF2 people can't even be bothered to use a mic most of the time...

It's fine! I kinda don't expect anybody to bend over backwards for a newbie, just like on my CS:S Server I wont go to far out of my way. I think my plan is to do some more looking into the classes and characters and play a bit more tonight!

Anybody own a server or can recomend a decent one?

Phal just see your sig :) might give it a try later!
