I got a PS3 60gb with a few months warrenty left, 10-12 games and 2 blue ray movies for £300.

So to celebrate I got myself a copy of MGS4 for £22 which I cannot wait to play! The only downfall to all this is that I have to play on a 28" CRT tv until I move out in October grr.

I'm looking forward to Tekken 6 and Street Fighter 4 too ;) hopfully there out soon.

Wait till you get and HD TV before plugging it in, you'll only be disappointed with the graphics. Its like night and day. Thats what I would do anyway. :P

You got a crazy insane deal there, all that for £300 is a steal!

I can't remember the games  I snapped at it because I knew it was a bargin, I will have to post back on the games. Off the top of my head I remember..

blue ray
Casino Royal

games
Fifa 08
Resistance
Call of Duty 4

I'll edit this post in a bit :)

Either figure out how to connect it to your monitor or just play PS1/2 games until you get that HDTV. I played for months on a SDTV and i really wish i didn't, it was a waste of time frankly an example of how poor it is would be that my super stardust score tripled just from moving from an SDTV to a HDTV, the games just aren't designed for SD resolutions.

There is no way I can wait until October knowing I have a PS3 and MGS4 in the very same room :p

I tried to persuade my wife to let me get a 46" Sony X series tv for around £1600 but she won't budge until we move

My PC monitor is a Samsung 226BW (bought from here) it is 22" 1080p compatible etc etc etc but I don't think I can connect hdmi to it, I will check on that.

Is it worth playing on a 22"?

Do you have a monitor with DVI-D? Or you could just get a V series, the 40s (V4000) are only 647 now, and do 1080p, Bravia Engine 2, 24p etc, Id hate to play MGS4 on SDTV tbh.

edit: if you get a HDMI-DVI cable it should work with that screen, you probably wont get 1080p though as the native res is 1680x1050.

If it's HDCP compatible (which i think it is) then all you need is a HDMI -> DVI cable and some form of audio cable as DVI carries the same video signal as HDMI just without sound.

I would certainly use the monitor over your TV, i had a 32" crt and a 20" monitor, the games looked so much better on the monitor.

[EDIT] That monitor will work best at 720p. It isn't 1080p compatible, it's 1080i compatible which is inferior to 720p but that isn't a huge issue as most games are 720p.

If its a samsung 226bw it isnt 1080p compatible, not that it really matters though.

My mistake, I'm probably getting it mixed up with some high def feature it has.

Ahh Streeteh nailed it. I was thinking of HDCP that it is. So Im going to need to buy 2 cables for this?

Nanoman the wife loves the glass around the X series... tbh so do I which doesn't justify it being double the price but if it will keep her happy and I can get that I think it will do. £647 is bloody cheap though, can you PM a link to it?

Yeah, as previously stated you need a HDMI -> DVI cable for the video.

Your audio solution depends on what type of speaker system you have:

If you have one supporting optical, that's easy, just buy an optical cable

If you have one that uses a headphone plug like most PC speakers then you'll need some way of consolidating the 2 coax cables into a single headphone jack.

Play it on your monitor or HDTV, or whatever. But DEFINITELY play it in HD, the whole experience is just so much poorer in SD. I don't care how you do it, but play in HD!!11oneone

My speaker system is a BOSE Companion 3 and my soundcard is an Asus Xonar DX

I found the LCD TV for £645 delivered (Sony V series 4000) but I am suprised that the same model but 6" bigger is so much more expensive (over £1000).

Yea its quite silly really, id prefer to get the W series with XMB in 40" inch than the KDL46V4000 as it would still be cheaper and offer much better features and PQ! Even if youre losing 6inchs, I dont think the size increase is worth it.
