Why isn't Robot Wars on TV anymore?

Used to love the show to bits, didn't watch it the last two series or so but my favourite by far had to be Razor - 3 tonnes of crushing power in that claw ... just amazing.

I'd forgotten that Jeremy Clarkson presented the first series - I did prefer Craig Charles though !

If you watch the some vid's from the last season (1994) i'd say the grphics were on par with about 2002. It was MILEs ahead of its time!
 
Used to enjoy the shows thought panic attack and hypnodisc was cool sadly phillipa was hot till she got pregnant then turned into balloon although the blonde bint was abit of alright :) who replaced her it never really recovered from then on and the show got stale shortly after that hence its demise.
But if they can bring gladiators back im sure reviving robot wars wouldnt be totally impossible but without craig charles presenting it would be naff.

Hypnodisc owned! It was fun to see the look on some opposition contestants faces after that beast finished with their contraption. :D Just a shame it was always a bit unreliable and vulnerable to damage.

With the exception of Razor, the rest were rubbish and the lack of total carnage and shattered dreams probably left viewers bored, it happened with me. I'd tuned out long before it went to Channel 5.

The very first series, with Clarkson was laughable, but had a charm, and after Philipa left a season or two later it all kinda went pear shaped.

So much so that myself and a few mates are hoping to have a go at building our own combat robot this summer, starting when A-Levels are over (less than a week now for me!). If we do get started on it, and people are interested, I could make a thread on these forums and do a project log type thing.

We've now been working on this for a while and are starting to have something almost worth showing. We're working on it tomorrow, so I'll try and remember to take some pics and post them here if people are interested?
 
Razer and Mortis were my favourites. Razer as it was a viscious barsteward and Mortis because the only time it ever worked properly, was in it's last fight. :D

If Mortis had worked though the rest of the series it would have been epic though.

Damn good times then.
Watched when i was a young un and Razer was my favourite. That beast was awesome.
Also the women in beautifully tight leather even i had a slight crush on her at that tender age.

I was a bit lame, tried for ages to build myself a robot to use. Out of xnex. It moved forward and back. Did nothing else. I suck at building 'robots'.

K'nex was great. I built A little robot that walked forward on 4 feet, needed 4 wind-up motors and a battery motor to power it! :D

Mine looked like a lame Johnny 5. I stuck lego on it and made 'swords'. Maby I should've played with dolls.
