All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

typical bitter Newcastle fans showing themselves up. you should worry more about your own situation instead of obsessing about Sunderland.

LOL, because Sunderland fans totally ignore Newcastle! Still boycotting Sugar Puffs? ;)

Plus, I'm not sure what we would be bitter about? When was the last time Sunderland finished ahead of us in the league? When was the last time Newcastle played in the Championship?

He has bought crap though.

Prica is about to leave them already, Chopra for £5m? Twice as much as Ameobi lol, Gordon for £9m! Decent keeper but not worth that, and loads of other rubbish for 2 and 3 million.

He's spent loads and their team still looks like one that will struggle.

He hasn't signed anyone who is too big for the club is because no-one decent would want to go to Sunderland, hardly the most glamourous club is it?

Chopra is a good goal scorer, he was unfortunate with an injury and fitness last season, but he always looked lively and he's a much, much better than Ameobi ever was. Prica was a gamble, admittedly. Gordon at £9m was for a young British keeper with unbelievable potential. Without Gordon last season they would have finished lower.

The fact is, he had to build a SQUAD last season, so he had to buy a lot of players for £1-£5m, he knew his whole squad needed an overhaul and players to call on. It's not like he added those players to his squad, he bought those players as his squad and spent the higher money on the better players like Gordon, Richardson, Jones etc...

Admiitedly you have had little to spend over the years (esp in comparison to the £££ Keane has been throwing around) but you should also have learnt from your experience and be up with Everton / Pompey rathre than in the 10-15 bracket after all the years you have been in the Premiership

Everton are a much larger club than us and so have a much firmer base to have progressed from.

Pompey are only up there because of there foreign owner. A fan owns our club.

Admittedly is has been slow progress for us but considering 20 years ago we were on verge of disappearing completely i think we've done a fairly solid job.

If McClaren hadn't of left i think we would be in a better position league wise but overall a worse position as a club. It time to start judging Southgate and personally i think he can start to move us forward and become a cracking manager in the process (Gibson did employ him over MoN)

I think we are bitter about

a) They signed Cisse who is going to score 30 goals this season
b) Sunderland is one of the nicest places to be in the country
c) Their fans are not fair weather fans
b) They will beat us home and away yet again...

NokkonWud, there's no need to tell Newcastle fans about Chopra, I think we've seen him play often enough to know what he is like.

He was better than Ameobi in the youth and reserve teams, and although Shola got a much more of an opportunity than Chops at first team level I don't think either of them made the premiership grade.

In other news, we've turned down a £2.5m bid from Stoke for Hyypia. Great offer for somebody of his age and with only a 1 year deal but we're right to turn it down. Last season proved we need 4 cb's and to get somebody in to replace Sami would cost us far more than £2.5m.

Agger, Skrtel, Carragher and Hobbs? Would that not work?

Diouf or Martins? - Martins, but Diouf is a workhorse so totally different.
Malbranque or Gutierrez? - Malbranque without a doubt.
Chimbonda or Beye? - Chimbonda, can't stand him as a guy but he's a good player.
Cisse or Owen? - Cisse broke his leg twice in England IIRC and I still think he played more games in 2 years than Owen did.
Taino or Guthrie/Butt? - Butt without a doubt.

Beye is a lot better than the Chimp, Nokkon.

Newcastle's player of the season too I think last year? (not that there was much of a choice!)

I think its amusing everyone raves about Keane but Southgate is doing a much better job at a smaller club spending less money, arguably harder to attract players and playing some fantastic entertaining football

Middlesbrough weren't at the bottom of the Championship when Southgate took over. Big difference.

Agger, Skrtel, Carragher and Hobbs? Would that not work?

Im not sure Hobbs is ready or ever will be for us. San Jose's more likely to break through but i'd still wouldn't feel 100% confident with him.

Like i said, £2.5m is a good offer but we don't need to sell him and for that much we can't get a replacement of his level. We saw last season that all it takes is 1 of our cb's to pick up a long-term injury and if 1 of the others picks up a small knock or suspension and you're having to play a kid is what could be an important game.

i just pray we can get Xabi, that would at least sort out the middle.

Xabi would work wonders for you. He did for us for 2 seasons before a few injurys and a falling out with the gaffer gave him few first team oppourtunities. When he was played regularly with Mach in the middle feeding Gerrard and Torres, he was starting to look good again last season.

Have to say that Benitez just confuses me with his transfers. Keane is a great player, but Gerrard was linking up superbly with Torres from a similar position to were Keane was playing against Sunderland last weekend. Surely if your two first choice wing men are strikers, and both want to play down the middle, then you have enough firepower with a single striker. Two quality wing backs to make up for the lack of width would make far more sense. Sagna or Clicy could do this role great, as could Evra (not so keen on Brown/Neville), Bosingwa looked made for the role last weekend too.

If Benitez lets Alonso go he is soft in the head, if he lets him go to Arsenal he may as well forget about any hopes of leapfrogging them.

I was merely informing him that Chopra, being twice the player of Ameobi, costing twice as much is surely right?
I think had Chopra been given the chances Ameobi was at such a young age you'd have been looking at a fantastic talent. Sadly it never happened for him.

He was very good (eventually), but Chimpbomba just seems to have more to his game, a better supplier of balls and a better force in the air from set-pieces. That's the only reason I went for him over Beye.
