Panasonic TZ5

Also I have had the sydney harbour bridge pic printed at 30"x20" and even with 7mp it has come out really well. Top camera

The Sydney Bridge picture is awesome. I have it set as my background at the moment ( I hope you don't mind). The detail is amazing. I particularly like the lit area on the other side of the water to the right of the bridge. Has the photo been edited in any way? I am completely new to photography and am contemplating the TZ5 or the FX500. I would go for a second hand DSLR but think it would all be a bit too much for a complete newbie and might put me off for good.

Again, mate. Wonderful photo.

there was an issue at first, I downloaded the file (off the panasonic website) and when I said to update then it just said turn the camera off and on then the process repeated.

After a lot of frustration I found a different link to the update file (still on the panasonic website) and it appeared to have been created earlier than the one I was already trying, but was still a version 1.2 update...tried that one and it worked perfect

I bought my wife the TZ4 a couple of months ago (very similar to the TZ5 - no HD video and slightly lower MP).
She carries that around with her everywhere - means she doesn't have to take the 400D everywhere.
She has been extremely impressed with it.

Same situation here. The wife knows how to use a DSLR and has won competitions with it, but she wont carry it everywhere. Since we got the TZ4 I get to see more photos of my daughter :)

Just ordered one of these for £173 inc delivery.

Specs & reviews all look good & will be a good carry about when not using the D80 I hope.

Just a quick question regarding the warranty especially those folk buying it from fleabay, do you have to contact Panasonic when you need the camera repaired under warranty or do you contact the store you bought it from?

I've been watching this camera for a while now and I just wanted to check out how the warranty works before purchasing.

Cheers for that. Thats what I am concerned with. I haven't had good experience when it comes to fleabay shop owners and their warranty coverage.

By extremely careful with EBay sellers.
If the price is a lot lower than in the UK then you will almost certainly be buying a "Grey Import".
Panasonic will not touch these via UK Warranty Support and you'll have to return it to the buyer if you have a problem.
Paying that little more will get you a UK version and full UK warranty.

I'll let you know what it's like once it arrives (hopefully tomorrow)

managed to get it for £187 delivered with a 2 year warranty (uk product not an import)

can't complain at that :D

that was from an online retailer, not ebay :D

I managed to get a well known national retailer to price match against a well known online e-tailer and so enjoy a reasonable price of around £189 with a point of contact via a shop which is very local to me.

I have purchased a class 6 16gb SDHC card for £35 and two spare batteries for the TZ5 (1200mAh) for £6, for both of them. The batteries have a higher capacity than the 1000mAh that comes with the camera - they arrived this morning.

yea i was looking at a well known price matching national retailer, they could match the price but unfortunately not the warranty :(

The second years warranty that I found from the online e-tailer was with them, and not Panasonic. Whether they will still be there or not in a year or two time I don't know but I would tend to argue my rights under the SOGA with the retailer I bought it from if the camera goes wonky after 12 months.

Can owners confirm the TZ5 battery life?

And in hrs/days, not in no. of pics!

I can't confirm the battery life in those terms. And, for me, as it is a new camera I am spending longer reviewing and taking multiple shots than I would normally and so my battery drains pretty fast.

However going to that auction site managed to secure me two 1200mAh batteries for around £6.50, including delivery, from Hong Kong, and they have worked fine.
